HI
Welcome. I am a Calgarian too, and spend the summers in the huge 'construction zone' that the city turns into when it gets warmer. I changed the front sprocket to give me more low end torque to negotiate traffic in town. Also lowered suspension (short guy) and set the clutch to release...
Have you considered sheepskin ?
I use a sheepskin cover over the gel seat (yamaha). It has a definite cooling quality to it. Also it does not get too hot, although it is black, when I leave the bike out in the sun.
Keep in mind that the original bar ends are heavy and this helps reduce sudden and violent swings of the steering if you hit a pothole on the bias.
It may save your skin.
Something new.
I just installed those. Have not tested them yet.
I used the frame sliders, cutting them to use only the spacer part.
These are very simple shelf brackets - looks like 10 gage steel, quite stiff actually.
In Paris (fr) last week. Have not been here in a few years.
These guys are serious about bikes. Lotsa them, more than the scooters.
I saw a few fz1's - at first I wasn't sure but then this guy (maybe gal) came along and did what we all do with our toys, he opened it up, full bore down the...
Unless you test the engine by itself, you won't know the losses.
There is a difference between a 'brake dyno' and an 'inertia dyno', or drum dyno.
One should read a few more horsepower on the brake dyno - it is the horsepower available to climb a steep hill at maximum possible speed.
This is...
It will be more jittery in traffic. If you live in an area with heavy traffic, the smaller sprocket provides more torque at low speed and makes it easier to drive around.
I went through the same thing. Had been away from riding for 10 years and got myself a Ducati.
It was hard at first but I found that as I modified the bike to my liking, (smaller front sprocket to make it more manageable in the city traffic, lower suspension for a short guy...) I gained a...
I have the one which raises 1" and pulls back 1".
Had to fiddle with the cable guides to make it work - did not have to change cables.
Very nice change.
I remember reading years ago how motorcycle fatalities (in the 80s) were 19 times more likely than on cars, per person mile driven.
tempering the stats though was that 50 % of the deaths occurred with new riders within their first 2 years of riding, also, alcohol was present (over 0.08)...

The weights at the ends of the handlebars have a stabilizing function when you hit a pothole on the bias. They are meant to save yr hide by reducing the reaction of the handlebars in such an upset situation.
I bought my bike used and the previous...
Changing the sprocket ratio gives you 2 things at the same time:
with a 16/47 gives you a change of ~11% in the gear ratio.
THis means:
1- at any speed, your engine runs 11% faster.
2- at any rpm of the engine you get ALSO 11% more torque.
The popular 16/45 gives you ~6% increase in gear ratio...
The air intake is not a Helmholtz resonator.
The pulsations generated by the intake cycles (2 per revolution) happening at twice the rpm of the engine have to pass the volume of the intake chamber above the filter and the resistance of the air filter itself. High frequencies are easily filtered...
