FZ1 ECU Tuning

Got an email from then today. They've been working on the new GSXR1000 programming, not 2006 FZ1 programming. They have built a custom ribbon cable to interface with the ECU. Once that is successfully tested then the cable will be sent to the dealer network.

How much longer? Beats me.

Just remember that once its done its done. Also 07+ is available.

"Sorry Ed, It has been slow going. We got buried in the NEW 2011 GSXR files (releasing next week) and when I finally got my head into it ........I needed to order another ribbon cable to connect to the board. I will get it done for you and your customer. Then we will never have to do it again for this yr/make/model.
We just get so busy sometimes on R&D for new files it gets hard to tackle these individual one offs, this is the main reason why we decided to build a dealer network and not serve retail customers :-)......... I will get it done.

On another note I sent out your revised Ducati Cable today which is really nice.
In the same box you will also find your first batch of our Advertising Media Kit (flyers/sticker etc). I will send another batch next week.

By the end of the week I will also be sending you an updated Motorcycle List. We have a number of new files ready to go. Thanks, Taige"

Maybe it should have been the '10 ECU that was shipped? They have those files, right? You could have suffered with the '06 ECU on the bike for the shorter duration. ;)

Hey man, you were the one who told me to ship the '06! J/K. :)

Yes the flash is available for '07+.

Remember this is for the greater good of the FZ1 community.

I KNOW Pete and I sort of feel responsible now. :spank2: : oops: But yes, it is for the greater good and all models will be covered, thanks to you!

At least you are fortunate enough to have a spare ECU to work with. If this '06 rocks your world, will you sell the '10 ECU?

I will if I happy with the flash. It would be nice to recoup a little of the cost of the flash development.

I'm really looking forward to getting the tuning completed and the fork on for the Fall riding season. The bike will be even funner than it is already.

Their website is not updated. Check this thread 2010-2011 Z1000/N1K ECU reflash. They just did a 09 FZ1. 24 hours turnaround time too.

Nice! And I grabbed this from the guy too for our members to read:

Ok, let me see if I can answer a few of the questions now that I have a second!

First, files are 350.00 including ground return shipping in the US. That is WITHOUT the insurance, figure an extra 6~7$ for 500-600 in insurance. Yeah I know its weird, but some people don't want the insurance!

Second, yes we can do the z in both the 750 and 1000 from 03 to present, as well as the ZX6-14, 636, 6RR,EX650, and pretty much every other bike on the market.

What we do to ya'll bikes; remove the 1-2, and 3-4 gear timing restrictions, recurve the overall timing map, adjust fuel mixture, raise rev and speed limiters, change fan on/off set points. we also remove the dreaded decel fuel cut.

As Miykl will tell you, the bike feels very very different with the flash, you will see greater acceleration in the 0-60, and 0-120, as well as much better roll on at higher speeds.

The bike will be smoother all around, and as an added benefit, you will see better mileage!

Well if Id sent my '10 ecu in it would have been done a long time ago.

Because af1 racing is offering ecunleashed services, and is helping develop the Aprilia flashes I'm very comfortable. AF1 has seen all of the "mircle" ecu tuning tools, most of them are terrible.

I'm patient as AF1 takes care of me.

In the thread Crazy listed they also mention taking a map that works well and making adjustments based on that. Sounds like a winner! Who's the first guinea pig?

PS I would guess that the 06 ecu would create some difficulties for this fellow as well. . . .

I suspect you're correct, ECUnleashed had to start from scratch with this and they mention it's a "one off". When I read between the lines is appear I have a "very early ECU", perhaps mid year Yamaha went to a later ECU of 2006? When you look at their catalogues they'll note "most recent part" on many parts.

Update:

Hello Pete,

This is Taige at ECUnleashed Tuning Technology. We represent Piasini Engineering here in the US and we have your ECU with us and are working with AF1 Racing
to get this completed with a new reflash.

Apologies for the delay but we had a couple of unexpected issues for example we had to order a new cable used to solder onto the circuit board.
We are working hard to have this completed in the next few days and we will keep you informed.

The most important is getting this perfect so that you as well as the other 2006 FZ1 customer receive a reflash that cures the problems with this motorcycle.

We will keep you informed throughout the week. Thanks, Taige

I, along with many others I suspect, are dying to hear about this reflash! I'm waiting for hellgate's results before doing any mod's (engine mods that is) . . .

I've been following ths thread for quite some time now and figured if they could get rid of the snatchy throttle on the "06" version maybe there was hope for other years as well. I've never ridden a 09,10,or 11 but my 08 defintely has a snatchy throttle and I noticed it right off the bat. In fact, until I learned how to compensate for it, I was about ready to tell the dealer he could have it back. Although I can ride it now without any major issues, it still would be nice if it had nice linear throttle from idle to 100% and back. Has this company ever completely eliminated the throttle issues with any year FZ1?
