FZ1 ECU Tuning

Ok Pete, on the 8th it was "We are working hard to have this completed in the next few days and we will keep you informed." It is now two full weeks later so they aren't working too hard on this. It's a really good thing you had the '10 ECU. Imagine being without the bike all this time? You should be paid for this, not the other way around... ;)

I won't risk frying my ECU as some have reported or making irreversible changes as they burn the firmware. I would rather prefer a piggyback harmless device like a PC3

Oh whatever...give me a break CB. If they fry the thing they'll get you a new one. Beside they can reflash it with the OEM flash if you wish, there is nothing to "fry." For the millionth time this is for the 06 only. I don't see anyone else stepping up with an 07+ ecu. That flash is out there and ready to go now. Pretty easy to throw stones when you have no skin in the game.

What??? What makes you think they wouldn't replace your ECU if they are at fault? And... show me one link to a person who has had a bad experience with these people? Where's links to your accusations.

My bike is a '08 . . . and your saying they already have the reflash data to do my ECU? IF so, what are the dyno #'s saying and is the 'snatch' taken care of?

See their web site and give them a call. I can't speak for them. Keep in mind that peak hp is only one measure. Read the articles on their web site and you make the call.

For me losing the PC, maximizing power for 1st to 3rd, and no fuel cut is worth it, even if the max power is the same as my '10 ECU with PC and custom tune.

Just for you guys, who I love with all my heart, I'll email and ask how it's coming.

My MAIN concern is the way it runs below 6000! Peak HP is nice, but . . . I'll give 'em a call and see what they say about it. I'd 'like' for the ECU reflash to keep me from adding a PCIII/etc to the bike.

If that is what you're looking for this appears to be the "perfect" solution. For my FZ1 I'm not worried about peak hp as this is my street bike, but I want really good throttle response and mid-range. I think this is the solution, we'll see, eventually. :eyebrow:

And now for something completely different...thank you Nate...

I know that you may be considering the use of synthetic oil in your bikes. But you really should Very cautious of synthetic oil! It can do terrible things both to you, and to your bike. Synthetic oil will not only leak out of your engine faster than you can put it in, but it will also cause your oil filter to clog and implode, dumping debris and dirt into your lubrication system. It also will make every part of your bike permanently slippery because of its linear molecular chain dispersion action.

Then it will leak onto your kickstand causing it to retract automatically and without warning, dropping your bike flat on the rocky ground! But that's not all . . . . Synthetic oil will round off your gears and spin your bearings. Synthetic oil will also splatter onto your seat causing your girlfriend to fall off in the apex of a turn and then she will never ride with, or sleep with, you again. Synthetic oil coats your oil sight window with a whitish pro-emulsification additive that is both non-removable and highly corrosive. Synthetic oil will completely leak out onto the ground overnight, force your favorite dog to drink it at gunpoint, and he will then die a slow horrible writhing death.

Synthetic oil will wear out your tires and make your battery leak. It will give you the desperate need to urinate after you put your full leathers on and then jam all your zippers shut. Synthetic oil will contaminate your gasoline causing your bike to stall on railroad tracks and accelerate uncontrollably near police cars. Synthetic oil will make it rain during rallies and on every weekend. It will causing your cam drive to jump teeth and break your valves to bits. Synthetic oil chemically weakens desmodromic valves and causes the clearances to change every sixteen miles. Then it melts the black soles of your riding boots night before you walk across your new carpeting.

While riding past groups of attractive women it will cause both of your handlebar grips to slip off at the same time so you smash your windscreen with the bridge of your nose. It also causes your swingarm to crack, your studs to break, and your rotors to warp. Synthetic oil then voids your warranty by changing your odometer reading to 55,555 overnight. It also dries out your wet clutch and wets your dryclutch. It makes your clutch cable or slave cylinder seal fail in the heaviest traffic on the hottest day of the year while putting an angry wasp in your helmet for good measure.

Synthetic oil hides your 13mm socket and puts superglue on your earplugs. Synthetic oil will scratch your face shield and make your gloves shrink two sizes the night before track day. Synthetic oil will then steal your neutral and sell it for $1.25.

So let's be careful out there

More than anything else, I can tell that this experiment in changing some of the more intricate elements of the software written into the commands of our ECU's shows how much work is put into them at the otset and why it takes so long to get a new model from concept to production. Maybe I'm wrong about this, but I would think these guys don't even have to worry about meeting EPA specs as far as emissions are concerned. Anyway, it has taken longer than anyone expected and if number of hours invested/$ made means anything, I think they'll be pretty deep in the red on this one. I hope they have a plan for making up for their investment.
