I have tried everything and I mean everything and IMO so far for the money it is the best. It has the least amount of topical feeling with the deepest amount of pain relieving penatration.

Thanks brother! I actually put on the "cream" and had a good night's sleep. Going to apply some more now.

I have bulges, herniations, fluid loss, you name it. I'll see if I can find my MRI results from 10 years ago. Yet in all that time, not one doctor suggested operating. I have at least 3 friends that have lesser issues than me and have had the fusion done and are much better for it now. I had been fine up until me being stupid and lifting those bags. I should have known better than to do that. I had been problem free for over two years prior to this event. In my 40 years of dealing with this, you learn how to sit, how to get up, warning signs, etc. but if you do something dumb as I did, this is what happens. I know that advil and pain killers don't fix the issue. I'll be better in a few days and be smarter in the future. No more lifting for me.

Bill, the bike is looking great! I just put a tire hugger on my 999 that looks a lot like the one you put on the YZF.

As for your back, not sure if I ever mentioned to you I had sugery in 04, l4 - l5 laminectomy (sp?) it was emergency procedure that I had to have because I develped drop foot from the pressure on the nerve. I only have 50% strenght and mobility in my right leg and foot. It did relieve some of the pain but now I have other issues to deal with such as bone degeneration, scar tissue always creating additional problems. I would tell you to do what you need to get by and put the surgury off until you cannot.

My back is surgically repaired as the Dr. always reminds me and then proceeds to tell me you have limitations to try and stay within. I find an epidural series once a year or so as needed seems to keep me upright and active the way I want. I am not pain free its always there, I just do my best to manage it. Of course they want to operate again, that will not happen for me until I can no longer tolerate the pain. I just wanted to offer you my experience and opinion.

Yep, I hear that Pete. I had an epidural two years back and I was fine up until this point. Had I not been an idiot I'd be fine right now. I blame myself for doing something that I damn well shouldn't have done. I also know that operations are always a last resort. I have been dealing with it for 40 years now so another few years is a piece of cake. Also, the scarring caused by these operations is always worse than the operation itself. My friend still goes for painful alcohol injections to deal with the scarring. Screw that! I'll deal with the pain for another week or so and I'll be fine. After that I won't be lifting anything except my leg over the YZF!!!!

I have decided to skip work on the bike today in favor of resting my back. I'm going to have Richie bring me the lower fairing section to maybe clean upstairs today. At this point I need to wait for Tony's help in routing the EXUP cables anyway. Most of the other things are done. Once the cables are routed I need to get the trailer assembled and registered in order to bring the bike to be jetted and tuned. Then I'll only have to bring it home, do the forks, install the new clip-ons, and get the bodywork back on and I'll be riding!!

Ok. I didn't realize it was such a long term problem. I'm really sorry to hear that. I hope you have some success with rest. It may very well calm down. Good luck with it and take it easy for a while. I'm praying you have a quick and uneventful recovery.

Thanks Troy. Yeah, I can remember the exact day that my back first went out. It was 5th grade and on my way to school I stopped to pick up my friend as I did every morning. His cat had just had kittens and he wanted me to see them first. I bent over to pick up one of them and that was it, I couldn't get back up. I went home and was out of school the rest of the week. Since then it has been a life long dilemma. I have learned to manage it with good results throughout my life but every now and then I do something stupid to throw it out. I've been to probably 10 back specialists and numerous chiropractors, had two epidurals and more cortizone shots than I care to remember. Being a dumb kid didn't help much either. Contests lifting the rear of my friend's father's Chevy Vega back in the day and 8+ years of playing football didn't help the situation either. I always say that if I could do it all over again, I would join the Chess Club! Pawns, Knights, Kings, and Queens don't weigh anywhere near a Chevy Vega!!! Haha!!

The bike isn't going anywhere and neither are we so take your time Billy. Get rested up.
 
So I was sitting here thinking about all things YZF when I realized after removing the petcock from the tank yesterday that it was missing something. I jumped on Ebay and I was right. The "tube" that extends up into the tank was not there when I took it off yesterday????? I'd bet that it's indide the tank somewhere. Looks like I'm going to have to order one from Partshark. Does anyone know if this will impede the bike running properly? I mean, it started and ran fine when I picked it up.

It's gotta be there for a good reason or they wouldn't have it there. It makes no sense to monkey around now. I should just get the correct part.

You may be right Mike. That makes sense to me, thanks. I'm ordering the new petcock from Partshark right now. They don't have the tube by itself but the entire unit new costs $17 dollars. I can't complain about that. When my back feels better I'll drain the tank empty and see if it's rolling around inside. I'd be afraid to use it again cause if it fell out once it could happen again.

That is exactly what that tube is for. Without it when she stars to sputter and you switch to reserve, you will be S.O.L. In the On position it draws from the top of the tube reserve draws from the bottom of the tank or tube depending on the bike. They usually have a very fine screen on the openings as well to keep particals of rust etc. from getting to the carbs.

Thanks Lee. I already ordered the new Petcock so all should be good. The tank won't be necessary for Ivan to tune. I've seen him use the hanging "IV" bottle when working on the bikes. I'm concentrating on the lower fairing today since the old back is out. Richie brought it upstairs for me along with some rags, kerosene, wax, and micro fiber cloths. This is "before" pictures. Just like the rest of the bike, grease, grime, and dirt.

From the looks of things, it's going to take me a while. I should hopefully have some "after" pics later on this afternoon. Time to hit the bath tub!!!
 
Yup... that's some work there!

RE: that tube. You will have to make sure it isn't in the tank. If it floats, it can get sucked to the top of the new tube when the gas is that low and then get sucked down to the petcock and hinder fuel flow there. Make sure it is nowhere inside the tank before mounting the new one.

Those fairings are NASTY! The poor bike was neglected but now she's in the very best of care! She's going to be happy and treat you right billy. Say, was that a spot burned through on the fairing? :eek5:

I'm going to empty the tank this week and remove the tank lid. Then I should be able to see it if it is in there and get it out. The new one should be here soon. As for the fairing, yes, it looks to be a burn believe it or not. Don't ask me why or how it got there as your guess is as good as mine. All I can say is that I'm not surprised at all. I'm not going to blame the P.O. for all this cause he was the second owner and might have gotten it like that, but boy!, talk about exposing a poor bike to the elements! I'm gonna patch her up but good!

Yeah, you missed it. It was in Brohay's post here in this thread. It's actually only the fuel sending unit isn't plugged in to the gas tank. Thats because the gas tank is not on the bike. So I'm good with no other codes.
 
I have to say that if you scrub something with straight kerosene and you still can't remove the grime, then "IT'S FRIGGIN DIRTYYYYYY" !!!!!!! This lower fairing is giving me the "business", but I haven't given up yet!!!
