Anyone else had an awesome ride today?

Took a ride with my buddy that just totaled his Indian. He got back on the horse and bought a Suzuki GSX8r. Total turn around from the last bike?? We headed out to Asbury Park to the beach. Nice Ride!

Did you see the Boss....... (Springsteen). Odds are he was having plastic surgery that day.
you been to the Stone Pony?

I saw him at the Music Inn at Tanglewood, MA when he was just starting and I was a teen.

Here's my "Awesome Ride" tale from that concert..................Saw a girl I knew well from my home town who was there with a date who I did not know. She was upset because the date had dropped his first hit of acid (1972) and couldn't drive the 120 miles home. I was there with four other guys and hadn't driven there. She asked if I would be willing to drive her and the date home in his car, which she said was a manual, which she couldn't drive? I was a little shit faced, but not tripping, so I agreed to drive them home.

We got out to the Tanglewood parking lot about midnight and the date's (father's) car was a new Plymouth Super Bird with the giant snout and spoiler in the back. The ones that could do 180 on a Nascar track. My eyes lit up thinking this is going to be great. Those cars are un-obtainium now days and well into high six figures.

Me and my buddy got in the front and she and the guy got in the back. In the hour and a half that it took to drive them home the date never stopped screaming this was his Dad's new car and he would kill him if something happened to it. So we got back to our hometown without incident and pulled off RT90 (Mass pike). My other two friends were behind us in their car. We were at the end of the exit ramp ready to cross the street and pull into a bar parking lot. The plan was to turn the car over to the date, and give the girl a ride home.

The last car thru the traffic light at 2am was a beautiful jacked up 69 green Mustang Fast Back set up like Bullit's car, when he saw us he did a 180 degree full smoke show burn out in the middle of the street to reverse direction and pull in behind the SuperBird in the parking lot. Two giant guys ran up ripped the doors open and start screaming that I stole their car. It was the father (car's owner) and brother in the brother's car. What are the odds? Eventually he see's his son in the back seat, and that's when the rest of us escaped. No go deed

Had the worst ride of my life yesterday on the way to the spine doc. 40mph winds with gusts to 60 and rain that puts washington state to shame. On s23's with 60 miles on em. The ride back was awesome though as the sun broke thru and i could rip on the bike. On the plus side my neck is stable, fkd up but stable. There is no pain like nerve pain.

The weather was perfect today so took a ride out to my buddies farm outside Gettysburg PA. Got some riding out in the farm lands with him on his Road glide. Great Day 460 miles in total for the day.

Had a nice 100 mile trip today to visit my riding buddy (78 and still riding dirt bikes!) It was a little warm in the valley with light traffic. Got stuck behind a prius on the way home, 35 mph and hitting the brakes on every turn 😑.

That's a serious amount of riding for one day. Where do you cross the Delaware River?

Was on a 100 mile yesterday and had a Mini do similar.

I crossed over the Delaware in Easton PA. Once I got out there it's mostly wide open Farm land. Good Day and The FZ1 is running excellent. Great Bike

Another 200 mile ride yesterday in the 90 degree heat but only 60% humidity. Still a big fan of mesh gear.

I'd get sweaty when I stopped for my breaks but it was like AC when I'd get going and the sweat would evaporate. The few riders I saw were wearing tee shirts and shorts.

Saw my second bike chase this summer. Five cops had him down at a blocked intersection.

Also saw my ninth bear this season. Enough to field a baseball team.

It's been hectic around here lately... grandkids are visiting, work, etc... However, I did get out on Sunday for a 200 miles ride. It was a bit warm - in the lower 90s, but the humidity was down, so not too bad!.

I hadn't ridden down to Cookeville TN in awhile, so I headed south. Nearly all of my old route was great! But SR 135 from Gainsboro to Cookeville was closed due to "serious repair". Not expected to reopen until about December. Bummer! 135 is a good road!

There were a number of detour signs, and I followed, but multiple roads had detours and I got off on the wrong one. hmmmm... the GPS said "go this way... it will be fun!" Chip seal road. Then light gravel... then more gravel on the chip seal... then the switchbacks... road narrows. more gravel, sometimes no chip seal underneath... no guardrail, steep drop-off, narrow road, slippery road, sport bike tires and I swear I could hear banjos!

OK, so maybe it was only about 20 miles of that stuff, but it was a bit creepy. I got back on track, and it was a great ride. I missed 135, but the rest of the roads were great as usual! It was a good day. Only a few deer, but enough critters to keep the speed down. I didn't see bears, though!

I'd love to spend a cool fall or spring season in TN. So many great roads, rivers and lakes. I was born in western TN (never learned the Banjo).

Your detour is just the kind of excursion I love especially if there's wildlife to be seen. I don't use a GPS as there aren't many roads I don't know in Mass. One of my hobbies is actually finding roads I've never been down. My big fear on detours like you describe is junk yard dogs protecting desolate homesteads when there's no way to accelerate around them.

I'm a native Texan. I lived in the Birmingham, AL area for 10 years, and back then I used Google maps to explore new roads. That worked well, but it was a bit time-consuming.

Now, I used the https://roadcurvature.com/ maps to find the curviest roads, and then try to link together the best set of the "twistiest" roads into GPS routes. It has worked out really well in the 2 years I've been in KY.

There is one section of my Cookeville route that I cut out - a really nice set of curves that wind over some mountain ridges, but the rains tend to keep a lot of small debris on the road. The last time we rode that route, I came up on a section about 100 ft long that the pavement was gone! I'm glad I saw that in time to shut down. Of course, I think we had 8 or 10 deer run out in front of us in that 15 or 20 mile stretch during that ride.

Regardless, there are a lot of good roads in the Cookeville area to fall back on, and the roads here in South Central KY are pretty good as well.

I'm not TOTALLY lost here, but when I'm venturing out, I want to stay on roads where the cell phone signal or Apple Tag will let the wife know where I am, in case I don't make it home. Wife #2 grew up near Cleveland, TN, and got her engineering degree from TN Tech in Cookeville. Fortunately, that wasn't the ex-wife that was Satan's sister. :-)

Haven't been using any tracking devices , I'm sure wife still #1 would love me too. I usually send a short text updating progress when taking breaks. I do pour over Google maps or Apple maps at home searching for the road to Nirvana, plenty of scenic roads, not so many curved.

I use the free REVER App. It works great .You can track your rides and you can add freinds and track their rides. Great App

Thanks for the tip, Mario. The technology to track is more efficient every day and in every way. I actively avoid it in most aspects of my life, so it's hard for me to embrace. I guess it's easier to take this position when I'm not the one sitting home worrying.

Yeah , I mostly use it to see where my buddies are riding . It gives you an alert to tell you when they are out on Rever.

You could just share your google location with her, or if she has an I-phone, you can get an "air-tag" and just toss it in the tank bag or keep in a jacket pocket. She can track you either way. I do both of those, so if I have trouble, she can find me, and it seems to make her feel better to be able to check on me and see that I'm still moving. :)

Spent yesterday and the day before exploring dirt roads that would have made more sense on a dirt bike. I have a hard time turning back when things go south.... even though it's the sensible thing to do.

This thread has been quiet lately! My grandkids were all here for about 6 weeks, so I've been busy. They went home at the end of July, but then it rained nearly every day for 2 weeks! Last weekend, it was pretty warm, and I had a lot to do... moved furniture, mowing, things to fix... Saturday afternoon and Sunday looked dry, and the yard was a jungle after 2 weeks of rain. Got that knocked down Saturday and went to the shop to check the bike out for a Sunday ride.

All checked out well.... but I forgot to check the tires until the last. Rear tire was flat. What??? On the last ride it was fine. Kept checking, no leak on the tread. I found a bead leak. Hmmmm.... I've seen them leak right after a change, but this one has at least 1500 miles on it. I haven't ever had one develop a bead leak in the middle of the tire's life. OK, so I pulled the rear and checked it out. I didn't get a picture, but it seems like (at least) Continental and Michelin both put these dang bar code stickers ON THE BEAD of new tires. When I first saw one, I tried to peel it off, and then figured out it was made of some alien material that makes it NEVER come off... so I've just left them alone. WELL... that's where it was leaking. I really didn't know what to do with it, so I lubed it up and aired it back up. It seemed to seal well then.

Sunday:
Tire was still holding air. I loaded up my compressor and tire patch kit anyway, and got out of the house mid morning. Beautiful, somewhat cooler weather. The route was only 200 miles, but I remembered some nice curves down by Byrdstown, TN that I wanted to revisit. I tweaked one of my first routes that I made when I moved here a couple of years ago and headed out.

I'm near Glasgow, KY, and headed down to Tompkinsville on 63... a really nice roller coaster road with some nice curves. East out of T-ville on 100 (nice road), and to Burkesville (always have to do Hill Street... nice Dragon-like curves for a couple of miles), and down through Byrdstown to Jamestown, TN.

OK.... fuel stop in Jamestown, and on to 52 from Jamestown to Livingston. For one of the more major roads in the area, 52 is pretty nice! Unfortunately, I got stuck behind several cars running 35 and 40 on the highway. I swear they heard I was coming, and just wanted me to be safe... I'll try reversing the route next time. Back through Livingston, 292 out of Hilham, and back home. After the ride, I decided to add some other curves to the route after the ride and extend it a bit up to Monticello.. that will be better.

It was getting a bit warm before I got home, but the mesh gear did me well. It was great to get out and ride! I may have to try the newly revised route next weekend!

It's been miserably HOT here in the North East. Got out for a couple of short rides, but nothing to brag about. Hoping the weather breaks soon.
