In addition to getting some training as others have said, Definatly read some books. And for gods sakes get some good quality saftey gear, head to toe!! because you are most likely going to crash. Believe me, you dont want the "rake"...

let me give you some better advice than just knocking a little rebound off or blowing a grand on a new shock.
Get your suspension set up properly FIRST. Chances are, at least given the way you asked about what to do, you dont need a high performance shock as many have advised because you dont...
Nice! I just picked one of those up myself and mounted it on the bars. does a good job. Not sure what I think of the helmet cam approach, it doesnt give you a feel for the lean angle achieved as much as the bike mounted. How did you mount the camera for that behind the head shot?

I have doen essentially the same thing, I screwed several pieces of 2x6 with drywall screws. each piece is a little smaller as you move towards the top. For the top piece, I countersunk the screws so that they wouldnt scuff anything. the setup works great.
