Must be nice...Verizon right?...I have Sprint..they may have been the first but its as spotty as my gf's period...lol

Yeah... it's Verizon.... the bad thing is that in order to get 4g, I have to go 10-15 miles south.... we don't have it here at home yet... which drives me nuts since I've run the fiber to the Verizon towers locally to make the 4G possible...

This thread has started an all-out war between me and Comcast... I got to looking, and it turns out, I'm paying for 30MB/s internet. So, I did all of the troubleshooting: Cleared the cache, cleared the history, reset the router, reset the cable modem, connected with ethernet cable directly to router, connected with ethernet cable directly to modem... I was still getting right around 13-14MB/s..

so... I figured, my modem is 5 years old... it's not DOCSIS 3.0 .... so.. it might not be able to handle these speeds... the router was a NEtgear... and was always a POS from day 1... so... I went out and picked up a Motorola Surfboard SBG6580. Capable of 300MB/s download, 120MB/s upload... yeah.. that should keep me good for a while.

So, I take it home, hook it up, register the MAC address with Comcast... and.. 5MB/s... ... WTF? So, I get on with Comcast again... they do some BS on their end.. say it should be fixed now.. do a speed test, get ~22MB/s ... well.. that's better... maybe their fix will take a minute to take full effect.... Nope... the next morning, I check, and it's ~10MB/s... reset the modem/router(which at this point it's all the same unit) Hook up and get ~11MB/s.

So, online with Comcast tech support again. They go through all of the standard questions, reading out of their book... then the tech hits something on his end... all of the lights on the modem go off, I get disconnected, and when it comes back on, I have 28MB/s ... that looks good. Surfed all night, watched Hulu on the TV at highest HD quality... no problems... This morning, I check the e-mail and while I'm at it, check the speed... I've got ~2MB/s at 6AM

So, I go to work, connect there, get 63MB/s .. so... not my machine. No problem there. Come home after work, and have 8MB/s... on with tech support again.

Once again, they claim it's not their problem. They tried to get me to unplug my damn ethernet cable and switch ends...

You have GOT to be kidding! WOW!!!

FWIW, they claim their rate isn't guaranteed as cable technology is shared so I ask "Who the hell is hogging mine?"

They threw in my face the following:

Get download speeds up to 30Mbps and upload speeds up to 6 Mbps with PowerBoost®.

Internet: PowerBoost® provides bursts of download and upload speeds for the first 20 MB and 10 MB of a file, respectively. Actual speeds vary and are not guaranteed. 2011 rating by PC Mag based on review of customer data from Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test.

So, according to them, I am getting the speeds intended for my area. I was able to get 24.8 down and 5.45 up but did not save that test. Hand-picking the test server makes a difference too. I had three in Boston to choose from and one was significantly better (and it wasn't the Comcast one!)

home computer, i'll check work pc when i'm back there. should be around 60mb/sec. The odd thing about this is, i'm only paying for the 6 MB service i think. 6 or 8, whichever is in that bracket.

WORK!

That's close enough for me.... I think I'll let it slide.

hankhill - where the heck do you work? I see that it says Kohl's Department Stores... but I can't think of a good reason why a Kohl's would have interwebz that fast...

VA, it was at the corp office, and I did do the test a couple times becuase that seemed way higher than it should be, but sure enough, always in that range.

i just upgraded my service and it will start tomorrow so heres a test today and tomorrow i will see if its any better
