Rate your Internet Provider

The US government should find a way to provide 100 Mbps to the metro areas and something greater than 10 Mbps to the rest.

History will find that the internet was the greatest invention since the assembly line. We need to find a way to increase speed and stay ahead of the rest of the world.
 



A little better....at least its back on!! Comcast just left - been having intermittent probs that started Monday with the connection - he found a bad piece of cable from the pole to the house (same piece was replaced ~2.5yrs ago). Nice to have a phone back in working order finally, interestingly, never lost the TV, it was just the phone and internet that was up and down.
 


I'm convinced I'm only getting the advertised speeds because of the time of the morning I ran this.

Overall I'd say I'm satisfied with my ISP's performance - but their billing practices and customer service leave me constantly searching for a new one ... but the only competitor worth anything I can find imposes a data cap and I don't play that game.

This is with there odd brand of modem. I bought my own Motorola Surfboard from their approved list and that will be here today. I'll swap it out and get it provisioned then after a couple reboots, re-run the tests and see if if there is any improvements. If not then I am calling to complain and tell them I'm not paying the extra for the same level of service I had with a DOCSIS 1.0 modem in place. :looseit:
 




Since I was depending on my air card for the last few days until Comcast could get to me, I decided to check my air card's performance. I knew it was slower, but just not how slow it really is.

So much for 3G network performance....

Well I just got a 4G card (for work) and I can tell you that it's almost as fast as my Comcast cable :tup:

I'd like to see one on your 4G card! I'm coming up for renewal and interested in how 4G does, may be the new way to go, would help to know how much better.


I've seen others claim that their 4G card was faster than their cable at home, but I can never find out what cable they have at home, so that may not be saying much....

If I remember I'll run one on my 4G card tonight. I though I ran one when I first got it and it was something like 16 Mb/s download and 5 Mb/s upload, but I'll verify.

Well here's my Verizon 4G test. This was with only 2 out of 4 bars on the signal strength meter. I normally get 3 out of 4 bars at this location so not sure what's going on today. Anyway it's pretty impressive, especially the upload speed ;)



And here's my Comcast cable right after. Much better results today. I guess people are out and not hogging up my connection :)

The 4G is much better than my 3G....no comparison, but still not what either of us is seeing on cable at home. I use my air card in client offices where I'm consulting so I can continue business with other clients and not use the email where I'm working, but I have gotten a work at home contract and may drop it altogether. At home there is a cell tower across the back behind my fence so I usually see all 4 bars with mine - it had them all when I tested it.


Even the 3G turned out to be a lifesaver when I was having Comcast probs though. I didn't appreciate it would take them 4DAYS to manage to get someone over to the house.

Thanks for providing a meaningful comparison so I can judge what the money is paying for!
