This thread has started an all-out war between me and Comcast... I got to looking, and it turns out, I'm paying for 30MB/s internet. So, I did all of the troubleshooting: Cleared the cache, cleared the history, reset the router, reset the cable modem, connected with ethernet cable directly to router, connected with ethernet cable directly to modem... I was still getting right around 13-14MB/s..
so... I figured, my modem is 5 years old... it's not DOCSIS 3.0 .... so.. it might not be able to handle these speeds... the router was a NEtgear... and was always a POS from day 1... so... I went out and picked up a Motorola Surfboard SBG6580. Capable of 300MB/s download, 120MB/s upload... yeah.. that should keep me good for a while.
So, I take it home, hook it up, register the MAC address with Comcast... and.. 5MB/s... ... WTF? So, I get on with Comcast again... they do some BS on their end.. say it should be fixed now.. do a speed test, get ~22MB/s ... well.. that's better... maybe their fix will take a minute to take full effect.... Nope... the next morning, I check, and it's ~10MB/s... reset the modem/router(which at this point it's all the same unit) Hook up and get ~11MB/s.
So, online with Comcast tech support again. They go through all of the standard questions, reading out of their book... then the tech hits something on his end... all of the lights on the modem go off, I get disconnected, and when it comes back on, I have 28MB/s ... that looks good. Surfed all night, watched Hulu on the TV at highest HD quality... no problems... This morning, I check the e-mail and while I'm at it, check the speed... I've got ~2MB/s at 6AM
So, I go to work, connect there, get 63MB/s .. so... not my machine. No problem there. Come home after work, and have 8MB/s... on with tech support again.
Once again, they claim it's not their problem. They tried to get me to unplug my damn ethernet cable and switch ends...
