Official YZF Makeover Thread

Just got back from Walmart picking up some DOT4 and some paint brushes and roller tray. Time to head down to the garage and get to work! Pictures to come later this afternoon. Have a Happy Easter / Passover everyone!!!

Just ordered my set of stock rear signals. Now I can get those dumb looking flush mounts off the tail section!

Yea, those are going to look much better than the ones that are on the bike now. Only thing is that they appear to be missing part of the stalk. Not sure if it will be a big deal or not, but they should stick out a little more as you can see below.

By the way that trailer is going to look great

You may be right Tony. I'm not concerned though because they aren't going to mount on the undertail section. They will mount to stainless L-brackets coming off the license plate mount which is wider than if they were on the undertail. I'm just waiting for them to arrive so I can take some measurements. Anything should look better than those flushmounts!

Before I came up I removed the Clutch Slave and brought it upstairs with me for the rebuild.

Before I disconnected it from the line, I pulled the clutch lever in to see how much movement it had and it only brought the piston out about 1/8". If Tony reads this, is that enough movement to actuate the clutch? I don't think so but then again I don't know anything about it. More pics of the rebuild later!!

Okay, I got the Clutch Slave rebuilt.

You want to talk about "Sludge"! Just plain UGLY!

Piston had more of the same!

After a thorough cleaning, the Slave body looks clean!

Piston looking great again....

New O-Ring in place around the body of the piston....

New spring in place next on the bottom of the piston.....

After a light coat of 3in1 oil, I slid the piston back in place.....

I capped it off with the new Dust Seal.....

My only question is what this piece is used for? It certainly didn't come out from the original parts so I have no idea what it's in the kit for??

So it's all done. I just need the new line to come this week and get it installed on the bike.

Gonna relax now and finish watching the Mets game. Richie went with his friend with tickets I get from work. I hope everyone had a Happy Easter. Mine was pretty productive!

Looking great!!!!!

Thanks D! After finishing the circle, I know it's gonna look killer when finished. It did take a while to get done, but I think it will be worth it. I may break up the white and black with a Red outline. I just have to find a "tape" that has "stretch" in it that can be applied around the circle. Do you know of anything like that?

A striping tape...you may have to go to a Sherwin Williams for something like that...maybe even Lowes....it will allow a stretch while maintaining its tack...

They should have different sizes

Thanks. I probably should have done that to begin with. You know how many strips of blue tape it takes to make a perfect circle! :doh2: A whole hell of alot!!! Maybe tomorrow at work I'll ask the bodyshop guy what he uses when he has to mask off the cars when he does custom paint jobs. I bet that stuff has to make turns. Thanks for the info!

No, 1/8" of an inch is definitely not enough travel to disengage the clutch!

And by the way that trailer is going to end up looking better than the bike...LOL!

Billy, from what I can tell that little seal is part #19 in the diagram below. It goes in the engine case and seals the clutch push rod. You might as well replace it if the old one is easy enough to remove...

I also hit a Home Run today at work. Both the new stock rear turn signals came as well as the Galfer Clutch Line! Yeah baby! Finally a little luck with the Post Office.

I sat at work today and fabbed up two mounting brackets to attach the lights to. Tomorrow I'll remove the license plate bracket and drill two holes on each side and "rivet" each light in place. The plate bracket will hold everything nicely. My buddy Sal sanded, primed, and painted them a flat black so you won't even notice them when mounted to the bracket. They actually came out looking "factory". I'm really digging them alot!

As I said, the Galfer Line arrived as well, so I'll work on getting that back together this coming Saturday. I pray to God that the clutch works after this!

So stay tuned for Tuning Fork #2 tomorrow!

Almost there! Those stock turn signals are going to look so much better than the ones on there now!

Thanks Tony! You ain't kidding! I'm soooo happy to get rid of those friggin flushmounts! I just have to make sure that I have a LOT of drill bits cause that Bracket is stainless steel and I know that 4 lousy holes are gonna be grief!!!
