Official YZF Makeover Thread

That looks great Billy! So when are you putting that clutch line on?

I'm going to attempt it Saturday morning. God, I hope it's going to work after all this. I have the stock line sitting in a plastic bottle. I looked today and it has some fluid in it but the system still needs to be emptied. I'd really like to get this bike all buttoned up this weekend. The other headache is going to be the upper fairing. It looks like I have to remove all the fairings again since that should have been the first thing back on the bike. Shame on me. Richie had all the bodywork off so quick I now have to figure out the order of installation.

Well hopefully the slave cylinder rebuild will do the trick with the clutch.

And yes the upper fairing needs to go on first before the sides. You may be able to get away with just loosening the side ones and letting them drop a little.

Glad it is all coming together Billy but now we cannot have you falling apart! I hope that all the Docs can get you back to healthy and soon. Take care my friend!

I sure do hope so. I couldn't bear another trip to Rockland at this point! The fairing is one of those things that I have to take a good look at the diagram. Those two "Z" brackets that go behind the black plastic shroud is whats puzzling me. The gauge cluster has to fit in between the fairing and the shroud but I remember having to put the gauge cluster in from the rear. It's hard to explain in writing but I'll figure it out.

Thanks Eric. I'll be fine buddy. All my bloodwork from the physical came back great. PSA's are all normal, sugar and cholesterol levels are good, so I'm not too worried. The doctor said that most times the cysts can be left alone but I just wanted a specialist to look at the catscan and see what he thinks about it.

...

Yea, those two zee shaped brackets are a pain to put in as is the cluster and the surrounding black panel...

After finishing the trailer I wanted to at least get the License Plate Bracket and Turn Signals installed and wired. It came out awesome and the lights work flawlessly! I'm very happy with it and I'll be happy to remove those stupid flush mounts tomorrow!

Tomorrow it's "Clutch Time"!!!!

Thanks. Hopefully if all goes well tomorrow I'll have some video of me taking a short spin up the block! I just have to get the clutch slave and new line installed. I'll be out there early tomorrow!

A true classic. The bike looks great too! I'm ready to see that thing scrub in those tires. Not half as anxious as you, I'm sure. Now you just have to come through in the "clutch".

Thanks Troy, for the motivational video bud! I hope to be rolling her out of the garage today if even for a short hop around the block. 45 minutes to "go time"!

That rear fender and turn signal look great on there Billy! Hopefully you get the clutch straightened out today.

I wish I could tell you that it's done, but it's not! I'm out of patience. I already called Ivan today and I'll be taking it up there Saturday morning. I changed the line, installed the slave, bled the system both ways, with the machine and oldschool. Nothing!! I bled it from the Master Cylinder too. I tried everything and I'm tired of wasting time. I'd rather pay a few dollars and be riding than sitting in a cramp garage getting nowhere. There was one bright moment today. My "Hot" cousin Irene came by and kept me company for a while until I had Richie drive her home. Otherwise the day STUNK!!! I'm totally baffled????:doh2::rant::mad::frown:

Even though it was "strike three" on the clutch, I still managed to snap a few photos of today's work.

The one good thing is that the flushmounts were on top of a decal. If I can find the same one, I only have to fill the holes and apply the new decals. If not, I'll find another tasteful decal such as "1000" or something and apply that.

I'm glad to have OEM signals on the bike. I think they look so much better.

I removed the old stock clutch line....

I then installed the rebuilt clutch slave.

The new Braided Line then went on.

After my cousin left I installed the upper fairing and tightened down all the bodywork, gave her the "once over" with the Honda Polish, and rolled her out of the garage to warm her up a bit. I hadn't started her since coming back from Ivan's. She started up instantly and I let her run while I cleaned up the garage.

So thats it until I get her back once again from Ivan. It's almost May and the bike still has 11,181 miles on the clock. That needs to change, and in a hurry!!

I almost forgot the video! Sorry!

So sorry to hear the clutch isn't behaving. I fully expected to see you riding today, as I'm sure you did too. Let Ivan work his magic again. Then it's 2 wheeled fun for the rest of the summer! :cowboy:

It looks amazing. Great job on everything. I still think that hugger is one of my favorite things about your bike :) Hail to the YZF before it was the YZF-R1  I know it's frustrating, but it won't be as long as it feels.

Thanks Troy. I really had high hopes today, and then I pulled that clutch lever and tried to move the wheel in first gear and NOTHING! I was really depressed after that. I mean, I can't bleed anymore fluid out of that darn clutch! I must have filled the reservoir about ten times. That's way too much fluid. I know when to call it quits and go professional. I'll never do like I did with the FZ1 that time with the broken plug. It was three weeks of trouble shooting and Ivan fixed the issue in less than 5 minutes! I try once and if not sucessful, it's off to the shop. The weather is too beautiful right now to keep waiting.

The bike looks great out in the sun. sounds like she is running awesome.

Thanks Mike.
It's truly amazing and I'm not saying that because it's my bike. I haven't touched it since it came back from Ivan's two weeks ago. I rolled it out and when you hit the starter button it is just ON. No cranking, nothing, just motor running. Even my FZ didn't start as fast as this bike. Thats why I'm so pissed that I can't get the clutch to work! Why couldn't they have used a cable actuated clutch!!!!! Damn you 96' Yamaha engineers!!!
