Hello all,

A little bit about myself:

I've been riding motorcycles since October 2015. I started my riding career with a 2015 Yamaha FZ-07. Since then, I logged 32,000 miles on that bike (I acquired the bike used from my brother. When he gave it to me it had 11,200 miles. It now has over 43k). Yes, that's a lot of miles for about 1.5 years. I wasn't looking for a Yamaha FZ1 specifically, actually I was waiting to buy a Yamaha FZ-10, but I came across this deal for a 2014 Yamaha FZ1 with only 878 miles for $7,495. So, I bought it. I have a lot to read and I'm sure there isn't much I can attribute to the forum that hasn't been covered before, but I'm going to hope to be a consistent contributor.

My 2015 Yamaha FZ-07:

Mods: Woodcraft Clip-On Adapters, Woodcraft Rearsets, Woodcraft Frame Sliders, R6 Throttle Tube, Custom mounts for a Givi Windscreen, Genuine Yamaha LED Front Blinkers, Motodynamic LED Taillight, Motodynamic Fender Eliminator & Akrapovic Carbon Race Exhaust.

When I brought it home, I installed Techspec Tank Grips and Woodcraft Frame Sliders (less than 24 hours of ownership)-

So far, I'm loving the Yamaha FZ1. It's definitely different from the FZ-07. There's a lot more growth coming...I'll keep you guys posted.

Thanks for sharing your build! A big welcome to the forum and congrats on the new FZ1 and also on some serious seat time on the FZ-07.

I'd be very interested to know your thoughts on the 07, especially regarding the build quality and reliability after over 30,000 miles. :)

What I notice so far is the FZ-07 may be a funner around town bike. I can't speak on the canyons yet as I've only ridden the FZ1 for one day. I did get my Speedo up to 157 once (which the FZ-07 would never do), but I have a feeling the FZ1 may be a bit optimistic. Correct me if I'm wrong for saying that. Quality, the FZ-07 has been great EXCEPT the gear indicator sensor. Mine quit. I gotta replace it. Other then that it's a solid bike.

Welcome and congrats on the new ride! First thing to start thinking about for the FZ1 is suspension. The OEM items are far from great, especially for canyon carving. The bike never feels planted which makes the rider feel less in control. Outside of that, the bike is awesome. If you want performance, consider Ivan's ECU flash and a Power Commander.

The FZ1 can be tame or a beast depending on your right wrist. It's not a hole-shot bike and certainly not economical but get the RPMs up in the mid-range and HOLD ON! I liked it so much that when I crashed my 2009, I went and bought the 2013 to replace it. Of course now I wish I hadn't with the FZ-10 out and the BMW S1000 R, both amazing bikes that need little modding because they have nearly everything OEM.

You'll enjoy the FZ1 but wish you had the MPG of the FZ-07 back. ;) Ride safe!

Thanks for the advice. I haven't tested the bike in twisties yet, but good to know. What's bothering me right now is the center stand. My heel keeps stepping on that thing. It's annoying. Contemplating taking it off...unless rearsets fixes that issue.

Welcome to the forum.
Enjoy your new ride and respect the power, it has a shite load of power over 7K rpm which is fun accessing.
My FZ1N didn't come with a centre stand so I don't miss it at all. That's what paddock stands are for.

Welcome aboard,

Yep, pull off the center stand and get a paddock stand, you can use it on both your bikes.

Cheers
Jason

Took a ride out to Sacramento, CA. Had to drive through some farm area and got hammered with bugs...while I did that I hit a milestone with the new bike. I went over the 1k miles mark. My bike officially has over 1,000 miles [emoji16]

Got these in recently. Just added the Aluminum skid plates and waiting for the blue locktite to cure and for the motor to be cold to install them. Gotta love Woodcraft products. These are the first engine protective covers I've ever purchased. They feel solid.

Woodcraft makes top notch products. I hope you never get to know if they work...... I have personally tested T-Rex sliders twice now and both times they worked as they should have. May your's stay forever shiny and bright!

They work as advertised too. I have a set on my R6. I lowsided, the bike tumbled and the motor was left undamaged. I was able to run a couple of sessions later that day.

Got home from work and immediately installed the Woodcraft Axle Sliders and Swing Arm Spool Sliders I got in the mail yesterday.

Super nice stuff I must say.
