So R6 2010 shock ebay $40 ride height dog bones 130mm centers $30

And presto new shock

So wots involved

well the R6 unit is 5mm shorter hence the shorter dog bones are needed

top hole on the R6 is m10 fz1 is m12 so took a drill to it as loadsa meat in there

R6 top bush is 4mm narrower so two 2mm washers used

A very small bit of dremel work to aid clearence (and i mean small)

everything else is stock

My R6 shock was on spring load 4 which was way to soft at 7 it's just fine

that is handy to know. was soo much easier gettin bits for my old busa than the fz, but i like riding it more.im tryin to track down a clear clutch cover and a few other bits as well. lol

Well to be fair that was back when i was working - health issues mean i havent worked for 2 years now so all mods to this bike are defo buget cheapskate

Wheel and disc set up is braking only 5 sets were made and 2 of them went to muzzy kawasaki for trial

i paid $2500 for them back in 05

Right then rode the foccer today yippee only couple miles and boy felt good both for my recovery and well chuffed with me shock conversion
nice ride and corners as good as i recall

still got to fiddle with the ride height as not spot on yet now sorted at 130mm centers on the dog bones

but im pleased with it for half the cost of a referb to the genuine shock

so to summerise

Cheap, easy to fit,all you need is

2 x 17mm spanners
2 x 14mm spanners
access to a dremel
2 x 2mm washers
a 12mm drill bit
and a pair of dogbones making up with 130mm centers
i used 6mm stainless 160mm x 30mm wide
12mm holes again
*if you want to jack the rear up go 126mm this will give +25mm at the rear*

]Does this shock which has it's rebound and compression set-up for a bike that's 75 to 100 lbs lighter have a spring that can handle the extra weight? And if the correct spring for the additional weight is added would it not over power the stock damping? Did you have to revalve it? How much do you weigh? I need a shock for two up riding and I'm not sure this would work without some revalving etc.:banghead:

Thanks Mike, AFM#674

The spring rate is around 625 pounds, which is much better than the 450 pound rate of the gen.1 o.e.m. unit. This FZR6 shock is three pounds lighter than the gen.1, o.e.m. unit

so should b fine and nope not revlaved or nowt this is why its a cheap mod

I like those adjustable dogbones. I'm seriously thinking about adding this when I do the front end conversion. A bolt on kit with the adjustable dog bones would be perfect, I'm keeping an eye on Dean's thread over yonder.

Mom's health issues have made me reduce my planned summer trip to omit Alaska and end up at the FZ1OA rally. Less time on the road give me more mod money and the suspension will be my final bit. AK and Canada next year though.

I installed my 09 r6 shock today. Everything went well. I used a 31/64ths inch bit, since I didn't have 12mm bit. It fit just right. I used modified Soupy's adjustable dog bones, so that I can tweek it a bit later.
