Anyone else had an awesome ride today?

Had a warm 250 mile ride in western Mass with temps around 93. Shady back roads were fine. The mesh gear (armored jacket and pants) is refreshing when you finally get in the shade and dry off the sweat.

I have fairly lightweight mesh Held gloves but wearing gloves is what bothers me the most along with the tall riding boots. Stopped mid ride to soak my head and hands in a mountain stream.

Shorts and tee shirt with no gloves or boots would have been comfortable but I’ve been down enough times to have learned better.

Yeah,
I like wearing a tank top under my mesh. Its cool.when your moving. I have Alpinstar mesh gloves. But when it's over 90 they aren't really cool. Lol
Like you I don't ride without full gear. Ive been down with no damage to me. But Ive seen guys that go out in a T shirt and Jeans or even worse shorts. They didn't fare to well when sliding on the street.
Even after I change the oil taking it for a ride around the corner I dont feel comfortable without my gear.

I said mesh gloves above but I meant perforated. Heading out again today in the heat. Rain in forecast for later in week.

Now have both PR4 mounted. Just for my records mileage is @ 85,000 on spare bike. Have new chain on the way from PJs Parts4U. New sprockets are on way from PartShark. Gonna throw a tank that Dean painted on this week. Bike will be like new……. not that its been any trouble.

Listen up folks!!!……..Summer is more than 1/2 over in North America. It’s time to ride.

I haven't ridden since May! I've been working on rehab after the surgery, and it's getting better! I was thinking that next weekend was the time to get out for the next ride. Then again, it sounds like the monsoons are here again... looking for some good weather, and it's time to get back out on the road. SOON!

BTW. My theory on summer riding. 100 degrees isn't too hot. If it's humid, and you can ride somewhere that you can keep moving, it's not too bad. Routine hydration breaks and a couple of Contigo's of ice water in the tank bag and I'm good! Of course, full summer mesh jacket and pants... shorts and a tee shirt underneath. The RF-1400 vents pretty well. I rode a lot when I lived in DFW as well.. typically, we had a week or two each summer that 110+ temps and humid was the norm. I still rode. It was hot, but I was riding...

Glad you’re almost back on the road. Worst part of recovery.

Storms in the forecast for Saturday and Sunday. It's high 80s and humid. The yard needs mowed. I haven't ridden since late April. I am feeling a lot better and moving well after the surgery... I think it's time...

OK. I headed out on the bike. The temps went to the lower 90s, but it was a great ride. I think any ride would be great after the time off the seat. About 185 miles, set up a new route to explore some roads that I haven't done before. It turned out to be a cool ride. I did run across this old abandoned country store. Had to get a pic (I usually don't do that... just keep riding).

It was a good day. I guess I'll have to get started on the yard now.20250711_145800.webp

I'm the same way. Too busy enjoying the ride to stop and take pictures. Sometimes I regret it, but that's just how it is.
Glad you're back in the saddle. Glad you took that picture, too.

Glad you’re back at it! I agree with your theory on riding in the heat.

Took advantage of the rain in New England today to install new chain. Not my favorite maintenance job. Embarrassed to say it took 2.5 hours. Looking forward to using it and the new clutch cable.

One thing that added to the time was having to remove the rear wheel to replace the rear sprocket. Front sprocket was in pretty poor shape. Not un-expected as I switch three sets of wheels between two bikes, so it’s typical for the front sprocket to keep getting wear when new tires are installed and sets of wheels are swapped.

Time for an oil change sometime this week. Also want to switch to a beautiful stock tank that Dean painted for me last summer. Gonna feel/look like a new bike even though this one has 85K on it.

Been riding pretty much every other day in July. Almost all have been 225+ miles. Looks like we may have another period of fair weather in the coming week. The new PR4 have been great as I never really give them a thought…they just do their thing.

Quick update: To add to my embarrassment I checked the Master Link before heading out yesterday morning and one of the rivets wasn’t fully peened over and was pulling back through the plate. Was able to get it properly set by actually using the instructions that come with the DID tool. If you’ve used it there are two set points identified as A and B on the tool. I tried to skip using those alignment marks and eye balling things first go round. I will say the new chain took a lot of vibration out of the bars.

90 degrees at 10 am. Temps expected to top out around 95.

Oil's changed and bike is filthy from dirt road riding but cleaning can wait. Time to head out. Summer is slipping past folks. I think tomorrow will be last day sun sets after 8 pm. It will be down to 7pm sun set at end of Aug. Quit reading….. start riding.

Ride update: Saw two bears in western mass. Only thing better / rarer around here are moose. Saw two large bob cats this month as well. Fck the wild turkeys I’m sick of them.

We've touched close to 100 here in NC the past few days. "Someone" thought it smart to ride the Blackbird to work yesterday as it was going to only be 93-94.
The XX runs on the warm side to start with but add the heavy and hot air, it was not close to an awesome ride, to say the least.

Did stop to look at a 04 Skunk on the way home. But the bike I saw was no where near what is in the photos.

I ride all year but when it's mid 90's I try not to go out.
I find most people send older pictures when they try to sell their bikes. Unfortunately for the buyer!

That’s a diverse mix. 250 miles on a Ducati would be both exhilarating and torture.

Weather was same in Mass on Sat and Sun. Lot’s of smoke from fires in Canada.

Valks are Sweet! My old man has two (just sold one of them a few weeks back). His current one is an “Interstate” model. Like 80k miles. Runs like a top.
