Ratchet strap, I like that I can make it tight and it won't move. The bungee's always move around if the bag is heavyish. Supposedly Rokstraps are good, but I've never tried them. The ratchet tie down's work well for me.

Haven't used that bag, but for my money I would just get a plain, non bike specific duffel. Used to use a Motopak 60L duffel, which while being marketed as a moto bag, is not much different than something you can get from a sporting goods store for $30-40. Here it is on my old FZ6, it's held...

1400miles isn't that far. Especially in the states where you're never far from civilization. Only thing I would pack is a credit card and a AAA membership. Don't overthink it, just have fun.

Lol, that was what I packed for a planned month long trip to Vancouver. Planned to camp along the way so most of the stuff is just camping equipment. Tank bank is full of camera stuff, DSLR and a few lenses and flash. One saddlebag is holding my tent, duffle has sleeping bag, stove, cookset...

As mentioned above the E52 is big, and it does look dorky, but man is it good. Any top case is going to make your bike look terrible so might as well get one that fits a lot of stuff. It'll fit two helmets assuming there is nothing else in it. Normally I'll carry an iPad, my gym bag, and a rain...

I have a full setup, Givi E52 top case and V35 side cases. Get the top case first and secondary get the sidecases if you still need room. My E52 never leaves the bike it's so practical, the V35's are mostly just for longer trips
