Its time to replace the chain on my 02 FZ1 and I want to gear it down slightly as well. According to the gearing commander calculations going down 1 tooth in the front (15-44) would be an ideal setup. However I'd rather not run a smaller countershaft sprocket because it will accelerate wear on...
Thanks for the info everyone. I just picked up an HJC RPHA 10. It is last years model, because of that the local shop had it heavily discounted. The first thing I noticed is how light it is. The anti-fog capability got tested on the way home from the shop. I got caught in a torrential rain...
Thanks everyone for the info. Sounds like pinlock is essential (at least for where I live in the winter). I'm going to try on as many models as I can, but I'm liking the HJC RPHA 10. HJC helmets tend to fit me well and in my opinion they make a great helmet (Over the years I've battle tested...
I'm looking for a new helmet to replace my HJC CL-15 (lower end HJC model). I commute nearly 80 miles a day (round trip) and I want something that is quieter at high speeds and defogs better than what I have. I have my eye on the HJC FG-17, but suggestions/opinions are welcome!
Thanks
Yesterday i went for a ride on some awesome windy roads at a fast pace. Even with a passenger, the fz1 handles very well. My girlfriend was on the back and I could clearly tell by the occasional death grip and screams that I frightened her more then once :)

Thanks for the review, I'm gonna try the PR 4 this fall/winter. I've been running Dunlop Q3s and I absolutely love them, tons of grip, smooth cornering transition at any speed, still decent when it wet. Unfortunately they wear quickly. I just replaced my rear Q3 (which was long overdue after...
Installed RSC clutch perch/lever. MUCH easier clutch pull, it's absolutely worth the money. Its kind of amazing how much difference moving the lever and cable pivot points a small amount makes. I had a cheap MSR motocross style perch/lever setup before which made the clutch pull a little...
I agree, both of my fz1s are stable at 150. Tuck as much as you can, head below the windscreen and tuck your knees as well. Also your front preload could too stiff and causing the front end to ride high. When I bought my current FZ1 the previous owner had the front preload as stiff as it...
I've hit an indicated 155 on my old Gen 1 (yosh pipe and jet kit), and my new (to me) Gen 1 which is stock. Both bikes were still accelerating slowly but I ran out of straightaway. I suspect with a lot of room and no wind my bike could do 165. On a Gen 2 fz1 I would expect similar results but...
My old Gen 1 made it to 86k miles before ignition troubles killed it. My new (to me) Gen 1 now has 23000 miles in is getting 300-400 a week on her

I installed a motocross ez pull style clutch perch/lever on my Gen 1. Clutch pull is now much lighter, but the perch doesn't have a spot for the clutch switch. Is there an easy way to bypass the switch? I was thinking just splicing to 2 wires in the clutch switch plug together, but the switch...
Update, I tried it with the CDI from my new (to me) 02 FZ1 and still no spark.
Everything that I can test has tested good. I guess this narrows it down to the stator/magneto inside the engine.
Sorry to hear man, I ended up buying another 02 FZ1, but with only 18K on it from the original owner (its mint!). I will eventually try switching the CDI boxes to see if the old one gets spark. If thats not it it must be a mechanical problem with the stator because the pick up coil tests good...
The pick up coil measures the correct resistance. Though I guess I should crank the motor with the multimeter on the pick up coil wire to see if it reads anything.
Everything seems to be testing good. My only 2 guesses now are the CDI box or a problem with the stator rotor. I guess its time to buy a Ebay CDI and hope for the best.
Took apart the killswitch and cleaned like you suggested, still no spark. The sidestand switch was covered in chain lube/grit but still tested good, still no spark. I eventually bypassed the side stand switch entirely and still no spark. At this point I believe its the stator itself (not the...
Ok, coils test good (both have the same primary resistance) pickup coil (inside stator) tests good. Is there a way to test the igniter box (black box)? The manual doesn't give any test procedure for that
Thanks for the info everyone, sounds like the Gen 2 is just as reliable as the Gen 1. Hopefully I can go test ride the bike within the next couple of days. 1400 miles is new in my opinion!
I'm considering buying a 2010 fz1 with only 1400 miles on it. This would be replacing my 02 fz1 that has almost 86000 miles on it. The Gen 1 fz1 has been great, I've only recently started to have electrical issues with it. I've ridden a Gen 2 before and I loved it. My question is is the Gen 2...
