    Sportbike Track Gear - Mistake

possibly so but the consequences of being wrong about that are pretty severe and since I already have the new filter there's just no reason to keep the wrong filter around...I just do not want to toss it

    Sportbike Track Gear - Mistake

Hi guys I ordered some stuff from Sportbike Track Gear and they shipped me the wrong oil filter. I have a 2nd gen FZ1 and they accidentally shipped me the KN-303 filter for the 1st gen. They fixed everything (actually they are very good people to deal with) and quickly sent me the...

    spark plugs at 18K miles

Not unusual, honestly I would need to take the wind screen off and take a look at what I did. I think that I needed to epoxy the small triangular cover plate in place.

    spark plugs at 18K miles

Too late now...plugs changed and radiator filled with new coolant...not jumping into this again for another 4 years I think... As far as the bike goes, it's been a real trooper. Zero oil consumption and no problems (once I got rid of the annoying buzz up front in the plastics).

    spark plugs at 18K miles

I thought so, but I had just came back from a cross country ride so I figured that it was an appropriate time to do the plugs, oil, (coolant because of the plugs). Front pads are probably due but I will swap them at the end of the season when I do the tires.

    spark plugs at 18K miles

here's what they look like after 18K miles.. a change out at 8K seemed a little premature these plugs did 2 cross country trips each leg taking 4 days, so they were run pretty hard oh I now fall into the "you need to remove the radiator to change the plugs" camp

    oil filters

Yup I had bought a few filters from a K&N vendor on Ebay for a little over $11 each with free shipping. Nice to know that I can get them locally though. FWIW ... I use the K&Ns because they have a very good reputation (no one ever seems to speak badly of them). As far as the Frams go, I think...

    Long Trip Oil Consumption

I agree, while aluminum is excellent at conducting heat it also has a the added problem of a higher coefficient of expansion than say steel. Therefore, it is an engineering challenge to keep the rings well seated and the cylinder walls properly lubricated during the entire cold / hot...

    Long Trip Oil Consumption

I was thinking about having the oil changed while I was in vegas but I never got around to it and the Mobil 1 guys are always bragging how bada** their oil is (and I guess that I have to agree now). Usually a little "blow by" through the rings is normal especially if the tolerances on the rings...

    Long Trip Oil Consumption

I am usually just a lurker here but I just have to brag a little. I took a bit of a short trip last month NJ to Las Vegas and back to NJ. Yeah the seat kinda hurt (OK it hurt a lot ...it was the gel seat too) and I am never ever going back to Kansas (tornado) , but the bike was incredible...

    people hating on the fz...

I'll throw my 2 pennies in. I'm on the gixxer site and although the riders are a little younger, they are more mellow about other bikes than you would think. Some of the regulars are pretty heavy track day guys, and the preferred ride seems to be a 600/750 gixxer. As far as respecting the...

Why Did You Buy your FZ1 ?

I have an 08 GSXR750. It's a real fun bike and I like it a lot, but for riding 2 up with the Mrs it's not so comfy. I did a 1500 mile weekend on it last summer and again that was a real fun ride but I was a little stiff on Monday. (Ottowa to Toronto in a monsoon didn't help much either)...

Local stealership does OK by me...

I kind of had gotten a bad vibe there recently. Not really sure why but I think it was the fact that the place was crowded with bikes and all the sales guys were "trolling" a little too much.
