Akrapovic it is... :)

Having a young family makes it hard to buy all the toys we want, so I have to plan ahead, a long way ahead...

Anyway, as you can guess my bike still has the boat anchor of a std exhaust on it and I would love to get rid of it. But I will just have to wait till I can afford it.

So, in the mean time I can crap on about what to buy. If I have to budget for it then I might as well wait a bit longer and find the cash for a full system, as I hate the look of that rusty piece of pipe under the engine!

So far I have narrowed it down to either the Yoshimura R77 (titanium) full system or the Akrapovic Evolution (titanium) full system.

Some Yoshimura pics:

So, which one should I plan on getting?

I've heard the Yoshimura pipes don't stay their shinny chrome look for long.

The Akrapovic costs a lot more than the Yoshimura system too. Is it worth it?

How long does the Carbon Fibre wrap around the muffler stay looking good? Has anyone had one fall apart?

Please feel free to post lots of pics too :)

My mate's 07 Zthou has a full Akra system. The titanium headers take very little work to keep looking sweet, and the Carbon can has a subdued but deep growl to it. And of course the whole thing weighs half a bee's whatsit.

He had them put on when he bought it, rides in the rain regularly, and they still look sweet. I've seen no deterioration in appearance in the 3 years I've been looking at them.

I know zilch about the Yoshi's.

Scotty I have the Yosh and the CF muffler looks as good as the day I got it. the system that you're looking at has minimal CF so I wouldn't worry about it, especially since it's only the muffler cap. As far as maintenance of the headers they do take some doing to keep clean. They are very light and polished ss so a monthly cleaning with your favorite metal polish should do the job.

The Akra is no doubt a well made system, but at least here in the US you can buy the Yosh for about half the cost and they both perform on par. If you're on a budget then the choice becomes even clearer...Yosh all the way :D

If you are going to budget it, you may as well go for the Graves full system. It is absolutley KILLER looking with an EPIC sound.

Myself, I have the Dale Walker slip on, and am going to be getting his header over the fall/winter and then sending everything out to get ceramic coated black.

I put the full R77 Yosh on last week and all I can say is WOW, the mid range is over the top now with all the other mods. As for the header, METHO mate not for drinking but for cleaning. I had a full RS3 Yoshi on the bandit and all I did was rub it down hard with microfiber cloth and lots of methylated spirit after washing the bike. Only used polish a couple of times and it looked as good as the day I got it after 40000km. I have seen Aka systems look like crap just the same as Yoshi pipes if they are not maintained. They all look trick weather it be Yoshi, Aka, Graves etc and from what I have seen power wise there is bugger all difference so it comes down to the look and the price.

None of these systems for the FZ1 have titanium header pipes. They are stainless. The Akra headers are brushed finish while the Yosh are fully polished.

I have the R77 full system with a titanium can and couldn't be more pleased. It gives a noticeable midrange bump and is considerably less expensive than the Akra and Graves. They are all quality systems.

the ones in the pic are Akrapovic. Listed as a ful
l titanium system on the mods. The bike is/was for sale. I'll ask him later, but I think Wolfman was in communication with Akrapovic at one point, and was looking at getting some for his FZ6, but theywould have been pretty expensive, as they don't do headers for the FZ6 as far as I know. I do know the ZThou exhaust cost towards 5 Grand.

Found this description at baysideperformance.com
The Akrapovic Racing and Evolution systems are composed of conical header tubes, cylindrical collectors and conical link pipes. They differ only in material selection, with the Racing made out of stainless steel and the Evolution out of titanium.

I haven't seen a price for the full Titanium Evolution system though.

The SS systems are so much lighter than stock that unless your name is Casey or Valentino there is no way you would know the difference.

Spoke to Wolfman....Apparently Akrapovic will make your exhaust out of anything they use, as long as they have a design. All you have to do is contact them. It will be in the region of 4-5k in Australia though.

That's not a bad price mate.
Once you factor in shipping it would come fairly close + you would be able to claim warranty a hell of a lot easier if you had any issues.
Akrapovic is way cheaper in the US though.

They give free shipping anyway so it almost makes it unnecessary to buy from the US.
Bikebandit.com want $1201 for the titanium Akra system and $867 for the Yoshi plus $111 shipping for either to Aust.
So that makes it pointless to buy the Yoshi system from the US. I would imagine the Akra would be more than $1200 here in Oz though.
