PapaGeno21's Build Thread...

Sounds fantastic.

Back on topic. I am going to paint the header black. Anyone have experiance with header paint? Eventually will send them out for a professional jet hot coating.

So I got myself a pretty good deal on some stuff.

I got a full Micron exhaust system and a PC3 with O2 Eliminator and 9V adapter for 650 shipped. The Micron is black, and the can is in immaculate condition. The header however was ceramic coated or so he says, and it was pretty shot. He told me it would need to be sanded down and refinished so I expected to be doing this.

So I sanded the header down and all the crap was coming off it. Got it down to bare metal, and painted it with the VHT Flameproof 2000* Exhaust paint. I did everything by the book with the application of this paint. I have not gotten very far yet and am going to be updating this as I go. But here is where I am right now.

Yesterday I installed the slip on just for the hell of it. I like the sound but I am anxious to hear it without the baffle as right now its a bit quieter than my DW Holeshot was. I am in LOVE with how it looks. (Sorry no pics lol forgot to take em, will do that tomrorow.)

I just finished getting 4 good coats of paint on the header. They want you to do light coats so that's how I did it. They have been drying now for about 4 hours. If these things hold up the way they look currently, I will be one happy man!

Here are some before shots. You can see the crap on there and how it was wearing off.

They have this awesome flat black tone to them. If they stay that way I will be very impressed.

Tomorrow after work I am doing the following:

Install K&N Air Filter, tie flies open, and mod the airbox
Install the PC3 and O2 Eliminator
Setup the PC3 with the closed and open positions and load in perfection map
Bake the headers in the oven as per the curing instructions
After headers cool install header
Enjoy power gain

The reason I am doing my install in that order is because if I put the header on first then I would have to cure it on the bike. I would rather setup the PC3 with the already existing header. Plus the baking method seems to work very well. My oven does not go to 600 degrees so what I will do is the 250, and 400 degree steps and then the last step that would normally be the 600 degree mark will be like the on the bike method and just drive it.

I am beyond excited.

My bike already came with a micron. I bought the full system for $425 new when the dealers were clearing them out on ebay in 2009. I sold the new slipon for $375 so I ended up with the full system for $50 ... lolol

Well considering you can't buy these anymore unless they pop up used, I think I did good getting the full system for 450. The PC3 cost 200.

I'll sell the Dale Walker and offset the cost of this a bit. Still don't care though as so far I have made 640 from flipping the GSXR and still have some stuff for sale so that paid for this :)

Got a bunch done yesterday... Well, Saturday evening into Sunday morning anyways. I swapped to the Micron header, after baking them in the oven. That went well, and there was no smell. They did smoke on start up for a little then I did a few small heat cycles and after doing about 270 miles with them on there they seem to be holding up just fine. Only time will tell with that. Also pulled the baffle out of the Micron. Holy hell is it loud, but gosh golly does it sound EPIC.

Also got the PC3 installed and loaded in Dukes Perfection map. Cut the airbox, popped in the K&N, and tied the flies open. I drove the bike with the flies open for about 15 mins and I just could not stomach the barking noise that comes up through the airbox. So Sunday morning I pulled the flies out and cut them down like everyone does per copperdogs video. I like it MUCH MUCH MUCH more with the smaller flies. There is still some noise but it is not as loud and obnoxious as it was. Sounded like something was broken and trying to come at me through the airbox from 3500-5500 on a decent amount of throttle.

Ok as far as the total thoughts on this.

Yeah. I am that impressed.

The bike runs about 10-15 degrees cooler across the board. I have not figured gas mileage yet and will do that next weekend as I have a 500 mile ride planned for Sunday assuming the weather cooperates. Just the drive ability is so much nicer. The power from 5500-7K is just unreal and the top end is insane. You don't realize how bad that stock divot in the power-band from 5-7K is until you do a full system.

I feel as though the PC3 was designed to fit in this spot..

Also finally got around to painting my rear footpegs.

I never have been able to understand why they didn't make the pegs and brackets black from the factory. If they ever come up with the paint color "invisible", that's what I would paint mine with.

The brackets have been black from the factory since the 2010 model. I think they keep the pegs aluminum to eliminate customers complaining that the paint has rubbed off.

And Papa that bike looks fantastic all blacked out

Papa - Your exhaust system is just the best looking! I'm trying to figure out what your muffler/slip-on is. I believe you said the entire system is Micron -- but I haven't been able to find a muffler that looks like yours on-line.
Can you help??

Your bike looks great! Is your build sheet current on the other stuff too??

Papa the bike looks fantastic.....and with all that black it looks like it is doing a 100mph sitting still.
I do think that you should spend less time working on the baby and concentrate on your lawn, I noticed it is not lush fairway green yet

It's indeed a Micron full system. The slip-on was also available separately. Sadly the reason you haven't been able to find it is because Micron is no longer in business...

Yup full Micron. Scored it used.

I would rather ride than care about my crappy lawn!

Build sheet is current.

Thanks for the compliments guys!
