Dear fazers.....

Yesterday in my hometown RIJEKA (CROATIA) happend one of the worst crashes ever, it involved 7 motocycles, from whitch 3 people died, and 2 are wounded very badly. The crash was so hard that 5 bikes burned out.

Attached you can see the link with the photos....(if you are weak of stomach don't watch it)

The news is only in croatian language so I couldn't find in english, since a couple of days ago we discussed about our "bad habits", this very tragic event can help us to put them aside as soon as possible.

This news gived me the creeps, cause this road is often used by bikers, cause it has lot of twist and turns, and is also one of my favorite road, that me and my friends pass every day while riding.

Always horrible to see any motorcycle accident especially when some have unfortunately died doing something they enjoy.Thoughts goto their families.

Any idea as to what actually happened?

Wow dude! That's something. Any way to tell how it happened? All those bikes just short of the apex of the curve........makes you wonder. Obviously, they were doing something unsafe. Just bikes and no cars involved? They were racing too close maybe? Crazy world.

A picture like that doesn't need any words. Whatever happened, it looks like the bikes all came together in a mad rush. Going too fast and too close? That's one of the reasons I don't group ride any more. When you are in close proximity and making tracks in a fast manner, it doesn't take much to bring the whole crowd down. Accidents lke this are meant to be a warning to the rest of us.

Apparently 2 bikers were coming from the Western part of the road going towards the city RIJEKA, and the other 5 bikers were going in the opposite direction, according to the two survivors (who were in shock, and could barely speak) one of the biker (they didn't mention who) came a bit wide on the exit of the turn and crossed into the other lane, hitting the other bike who was coming from the opposite side, 5 of 7 bikes crashed into each other and only 2 of them managed to evade the other 5, the bikes began to burn creating according to the witnesses a 10m high flame, 2 bikers burned up alive, and decesed immediatly, the other guy died a moment later due to injuries.

Since the investigation is still in progress, and the only two survivors can barely speak we will know in a couple of day's what really happend. We don't even know the identities of the poor guy's since the documents burned up, we can only see the Plates numbers on a couple of bikes.

I'm only 27 years old and as far as me and my father are alive we cannot remember any tragedy like this, the most worring part is that on that road I learned how to drive my FZ1, cause it has a lot of twist's, turns, shicanes, it is a really great road to have fun, but as you can see it has become also very dangerous, because some guy's drive there as they were on the track....

Regardless of the outcome of the investigation I feel very sorry for their families, friends as well for them because they all seem to be about my age or even younger, there is one bike that looks familiar to me (the Kava ZX10 blue color on the photo), I think I know that guy cause he is a good friend of my cousin, and they grow up togheter.....

Like I wrote in the thread "Bad Habits....." you are never aware of danger while riding, just after sitting down and thinking of your previous actions you came to realize what you have done....

sad...very sad.

no, i no nothing of this place, the people, or etc...but i do feel for the family's the must go on after this tragedy.
but from what you posted one fool just took things into there own hands and was too fast for..what ever. or just sand on the rd..

flag at half staff day.

.

thanks lindy,

got off the phone with my father about half an hour ago...

Since I'm stationed in singapore, due to my work, I called home just hear my parents and asked my father if he knew what actually happend....

One of the two guy's who decesed, was a friend of his, he was returning from a solo ride to his family when the 6 bikers took his life, apparently from what he know's one of the six bikers was cutting a corner and directly hitted him, and seconds after the other 4 guy's rammed into them, the other one managed to evade them and hit a wall....

Some witnesses said that the six bikers just minutes before the crash were burning tires, and apperently drinkin, however the blood analysis will show if they had samo alcohol in their blood....

From one point of view I feel sorry for everyone, but on the other I'm pissed off at the other guy's who were driving like crazy on a normal street and taking a life of one innocent man. Now according to the latest news another has passed away due to serious injuries...so the total is 3 off to a better life and 4 seriusly injured....:(

Now I'm asking you fellow fazers, father's, son's, wifes, brothers, sisters...ect....wouldn't you be pissed off at theese 6 guy's if something would happend to someone who you know???? what would you do??

Thanks for sharing CRO, words cannot describe the trama those pictures reveal. One can only imagine the pain and suffering something like this would bring to the survivor's, and the families of all those involved.

Tragic indeed.

Even if we are careful, tragedy can strike when you least expect it. It happens all the time and is a risk we take each time we ride off on the bike. We can be cautious and great riders but unforeseen danger is ALWAYS around the next corner. 5 or 10 seconds later and Cro's friend would have been through the apex and into the straight when he happened upon these hooligans where they would have likely crashed anyway.

This is very sad and unnecessary. These kids should have been much more responsible but a group of young guys can be an unstoppable force when you add alcohol to testosterone. They paid a dear price for their actions but the unfortunate part is they also took a life in the process. I can only hope the survivors are served a heavy hand of justice.

I'd like to think that I always allow for room to avoid/evade something like that. But man, I don't know. All those bikes smashed together with some on fire? Aside from how it happened, how do we learn from it? Always leaving enough of a space cushion and following distance to remain safe and be able to take evasive action? Things like this definitely make you pay attention.

I have swerved to avoid animals in curves and had bikes and vehicles crossing into my lane in hairpins......I think I ride hyper-alert..........but, hey. Maybe as the facts come out on this case we will know more. I guess, I'm just always trying to learn. Stay alert!

That's what worries me the most riding the twisties - oncoming traffic - especially the lefties where I find myself sometimes leaning into the other lane. I found on my recent trip I was thinking about that, and if I couldn't see the potential oncoming traffic I would slow and move to the outside of the lane just in case - you never know when someone might make even an innocent mistake that could cause a tragedy like this.

Ride with enough room between you and the guy in front of you.

Plan on the danger of oncoming traffic.

Be aware of riding beyond your skill and think about what YOUR mistake could mean to someone else too.

Alcohol and riding just don't mix - period.

Just once I'd like to have the Twisted Sisters route (in Texas) to myself and not have to worry about that!

Sorry for the loss of friends Cro, and for the loss of any and all the fellow bikers regardless - pity those left behind.

thank's guy's,

but unfortunately there will be alway's some idiots on the road wanting to show off how far their stupidity goes and someone innocent soul will be catched in the process.

This what you said I think that everyone who acutally has a brain plans before steping on the street regardless if he is on a bike or car, but there are to many idiots on the street unfortunately, you can just go to Youtube and enter 299kh/h street and you can see how many results pop out.

Because of theese idiots the rest of us look like criminals on two wheels, that is what bother's me....for driving like this you should be without a licence for life so you can't drive anything not even a bicycle, if you wanna show off with your bike go on the track and do whatever you want to, but on the street have respect for the others, because you never know what is around the corner for you....

This is horrible and should never happen. There is no reason this accident should have taken down 7 people.

In group riding staggered formation you should always have 2 seconds between you and the person directly in front of you and one second between you and the person staggered in front of you. I see people all the time staying the same close distance in staggered formation regardless of current speed. That is bad. Also, the second you hit the twisties the group leader should indicate single file (if you actually need someone to tell you this) and follow a 2 second rule at the bare minimum.
