The Ultimate Music Suggestion Thread!

Ok, so my idea is simple. Post up some of your favorite bands and links to their music (myspace or amazon, etc). I've been in a musical drought lately and need some new tunes. I thought this would be a good way to find some new stuff to listen to and maybe help some other people in the process.

Rules: 1. Name the band
2. Tell us the Genre
3. Link to their music.

I'll start with some of the artists I've been stuck on recently.

Mastodon - Prog/Thrash Metal - Mastodon on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Videos
Coheed and Cambria - Rock/Progressive - coheed and cambria on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Videos
The Sword - Sludge Metal - The Sword on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Videos
Demians - Progressive Rock - DEMIANS on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Videos
Porcupine Tree - Progressive Rock - Porcupine Tree on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Videos

Great thread!!!

I too am always on the hunt for new music! I grew up on rock and metal but as I get older I listen to anything from pop (yes even chick music) to alternative to punk...

Favorite artist range from P!nk to Slipknot to Rhianna to Iron Maiden to Paramore to Breakin Benjamin ... ok you get the idea.

Recently a freind turned me on to Five Finger Death Punch and these guys ROCK !

Checkem out:

5FDP (Five Finger Deathpunch) - Rock/Punk Metal - ::::: - FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH : NEW ALBUM - 9.22.09 - :::::

Atomship - The Crash of 47 - Progressive Hard Rock

Simply one of the greatest albums ever made, and a band that few people have ever heard of. The album is from 2004 and it is Atomship's only major label album. They are no longer together, but since you like prog rock I think you might find it worth the price of purchase. Its a rare gem in a sea of generic music. The drummer is in my opinion one of the best in the world, and that is a tall statement to make. The sound quality of You tube doesnt do much justice, but take the time to listen to the song "Mothra". Its a bit muddied by You tube's compression, but you will still be able to hear how intricate the drumming is. The lyrics of the various songs are quite strange and often leave me pondering their meanings. Listen to "Withered" and figure that one out. I think its about two people in love who both died, but who knows! LOL!

My music tastes are fairly mainstream and I'm afraid I don't have any bands to post that you guys haven't heard of. I like Flyleaf, Three Days Grace, Evanescence, Regina Spektor, Cake, Garbage, Bowling for Soup, Jimmy Buffett, Saving Abel, Finger Eleven, Lifehouse, Trapt, just to name a few. I love all that great 70's rock and I've found some Christian Rock bands I like quite a bit too (yep).

My old band back home:

Grave Return | Facebook... thats me with the pretty blue Rickenbacker :)

Waaaay too many bands to list as far as what I dig. As the OP mentioned, Mastadon is great. Been listening to Shrinebuilder which is in the same vein.

Grew up on Gorilla Biscuits, DagNasty, 7 Seconds, D.I., Youth Brigade, ect.

Pelican is a really good, atmospheric sounding band with heavy parts blended in as well. All instrumental.

Godflesh was my favorite band in the "industrial" vein. Saw Ministry play one time it was insanity.

The 35th anniversary of the Wreck

It was 35 years today that the Edmund Fitzgerald went down with all 29 hands lost. It is still a mystery as to why.
