The brand makes a difference...

I find that some stations (since they are franchises after all) are lax in the maintenance department. All fuel pumps have filters on them (whether you can see them or not) and I have seen external ones leaking because they are so plugged that fuel is bypassing the o-ring. In an emergency the inside small o-ring can be removed, essentially bypassing the filter entirely (I learned that trick from my trucking days). I would not put it past "scabby" dealers to do that to save money on filters and labor.

Another note. I found in Montana (at Exxon and some Sinclair stations) that premium would not have ethanol in it, even though mid-grade and regular would. That alone determined where I would fill.

Sign on the pumps that clearly stated "Premium contains no ethanol". It could have been B.S. but that made up my mind as to what Brand to buy the next town (stop) over.

oh, haha, well I guess that makes it a bit more obvious. If Premium was offered without ethanol around here I might just pony up the extra money and purchase it all the time.
