RZ 350 Kenny Roberts Edition

Salt Flats

I too have dreamed of running the salt flats. . . . gotta be a hoot!! Then, to maybe get a turn on the blown-RZ. . . . what a rush that must be?!!

I couldn't modify mine (like that). I like the stock look except for the HUGE, bulbass, giant-sized turn signals . . . . they are soooooo darn UGLY.. I am pondering a change to flush mounts of some kind that I could reverse for re-sale later.

What do you guys think? Leave them alone and live with the biggens? OR, , , mount up some Proton's ! I might even do the LED rear signals too?:wilynily:

Find a middle ground. Instead of going from enormous retro signals to teeny super-techno LED wacky signals, look for some smaller signals that fit the OEM style. They'll look stock and tidy but won't be the size of a basketball

That's what I'd do

The RZ today

Today the sun was out, the birds are singing and I am out there cleaning on the RZ as usual. (gotta keep up with Billy)

The actual bike is in getting the carbs pulled for cleaning/refurbishing, so I worked some more on the body panels and bits and pieces. Here are a few pics. . .

The fender after removal.
The fender and side panels after cleaning.
Then the seat, , , , bottom and top. I even pulled and cleaned the metal latch/spring(s) assemblies for cleaning. . . .

I will buff the the painted panels with the buffer and some 3M Cleaner/wax. Great stuff !

I want to get the front cowl, the chin cowl, and the tank all cleaned up and ready for buffing before starting because it can be messy. I can do them all in a one day when I get them ready . . .

Thanks guys! I am leaning toward changing them . . .. reversable of course. I REALLY like the Proton's and if I can figure a way to mount them without too much of a hole or other non-reversable mod. I will explore that route this spring!!

Thanks stretched06, I have been pleased with the overall condition of the whole bike. I knew it was pretty much original and the PO was an electrical engineer (worked at CRANE Munitions Depot) so I know he took reasonable care. The fact it was stored and inactive for so long was the big question . . ... .heh, heh

Well, if you want the flush mounts i'm taking off the YZF just let me know and I'll get them out to you. I won't be using them. They are half Carbon Fiber looking. PM me if you want them at no charge to you my friend.

Nice job Gary. The stuff looks new buddy!

Thanks Billy !! I am like you in the fact that we both enjoy the prep/cleaning, detailing, and polishing almost as much as the riding!! heh, heh,

I ALWAYS wipe down the MC after a ride. No matter how far the ride or what time I get in. It gives me a chance to reflect, unwind, and enjoy the trip more.

I am way undecided on what I'll do about the turn signals at this time. So, I appreciate the offer of your take-off's, but, hang on to them (unless you can sell them, of course). I am in no hurry. Still looking at options . . . . . .
Thanks for the offer buddy!

Btw, your YZF is looking great! I like the way the white scratches on the cowling seem to have just disapperaed?! heh,heh GOOD JOB !

Well come on down for the Texas Mile, it's the next best thing. This year I hope to run the R6 and see what she does.

TEXAS MILE // OFFICIAL SITE // 3 DAYS, 1 MILE: NO SPEED LIMIT

Thanks Pete !! That looks awesome. Is that a former (or closed) airport? Looks to me like a runway and intersecting taxiways. If it is, who maintains it? Btw, , , I LIKE the no speed limit sign !! heh,heh
Everywhere I go it seems like there speed limit signs keeping me throttled back. . . . . yuk

No problem pal. These aren't the type of thing I would sell to anyone since they aren't top quality. I would give them away if someone needed a set and only accept the shipping charges, except if you wanted them. Anyway, they will be here if you decide to do it in the future!

Gary what about newer Yamaha turn signals? The RZ350 was sold for a few more years in Canada and it got a refresh along the way. This is an '87:

Not bad Tony ! I don't know about those looooong stalks though . . . . They are waaaaaaay out there.

I like the signal's retangular shape better . . . a little bit better.

I like the lower fairing on that bike!! w00t !!

I think Spec II made some full fairings at one point, but not sure they still do.

I know what you mean about the long stalks, but that's pretty much what you get with factory signals. I guess they need to be a certain distance apart for DOT standards?

How about some like the ones I got for my Hawk?

I got these on eBay and they were very affordable. By the way they are about 4.5" long from mounting surface to the end of the housing. They use regular bulbs, not LED ones. I didn't want to have any issues with the flashing rate and I though that regular bulbs would "go better" with an older bike.

Those don't look enormously long at all. Me, I just like to have the stock signals. I don't really care how long they are, but I hate when they do "the sag". Droopy signals are not cool!

Yea, I wasn't about to invest in new stock signals for the Hawk and all the ones I saw on eBay looked droopy like my stock ones so these will do for now.
