Progression of Lunacy....a pictorial documentary and random discussion

Typically, Partshark is the one to beat. What you can try Adam, is to take the OEM part number and Google one of them to see what hits come up in Google Shopping. If you find a cheaper place for one OEM part, chances are, the rest will follow suit and the entire order might be less. I do this all the time. ;)

I went searching on the "rehto" forum this morning, hoping to find some useful information. However, anything that I did come across, ended up in jumbled he said/he said and any of the link were no longer to valid information to offer confirmation on what I was searching for.

Long story short, I just gave up trying to save a few extra dollars, and PartShark wins the bidding war on information that I was able to confirm. I'm just after the swingarm bearings/dust seals and I'll get the frt/rear/steering bearings after this riding season -- when I go to finish the powdercoating.

Ended up cleaning the wife's car and then asked to get power/water on in the RV. Let just say, two cheap fittings giving way and a trip to the RV parts counter, got me back up and running in water without it leaking all over the place. cleaned up the inside a bit and have to do some misc. trim work to put things back together (since they could not do it right the first time)

So, after the day was shot, I decided to start on the FZ. Torqued all the engine mounts to spec, put my new ported boots on and caps (only to find out that one of the brass bushings on the clamps fell into the abyss. I removed the starter, on to find out that the gears protruded into the engine. Thankfully, it slid back in with a little love tap and hoping I don't have any problems later on.

getting ready to cut the airbox to prepare for the MB jet kit (IVAN's) with a little modified tweak from Aaron (va_rider). I ashmed to admit, but I've had parts for this little venture for almost two years.....here is hoping it was worth the wait!

Airbox. fire up the compressor and get some of the grains of sand out of the nooks/crannies of the back half of the engine. Probably work on getting the harness in place and maybe start working on the back end with the various bits.

going to spend a little time each night for it seems to be my only way to unwind.

Sounds great Adam. Little "baby steps" brother. A little each day and before you know it you'll be "two wheeling" again!!!

I had gotten everything torqued and stated to run the wiring harness, only to sit and look at the diminishing hole and a large airbox not sitting where it belonged.

I tried and tried, but to no avail, I had to break everything down again to get the airbox in. Everything that I left in place, snagged on something, so there IS a reason to follow directions and remove things to make it easier.....back where I was WITH the airbox in its place.

I'll continue with more once everyone goes to bed.....

there is one question, do the mounts do the job to make sure the engine is 'centered' in the frame, or do other steps need to be taken??

Unless there are "spacers" invloved, I would think that once she's bolted in and torqued down that she should be good to go.

Procrastination build continues to procrastinate....

I have been focusing on finishing up the Ranch. All the utilities are in and the electrical needs to be energized by the power company. The contractor has dropped the ball with the foundation, so I've been politely pushing him to get it done. I could have my home transported as soon as Wed/Thur of this week, but the contractor is trying to play games with me.

I thought when I got back this weekend, they'd be here and I'd be wrapping it up and loading it up to take up North with me. Off again on Monday running back and forth to get misc pad sites done for storage containers/chicken coops/horse barn, so I'm hoping they arrive this week. If not, guess I'll deal with it then.....

So, until then.....

Here we are the first day of May, and still incomplete on my parts list.....

I've got bits/pieces for front/rear, but not enough to warrant assembly, for I'll just have to take apart again......

I head out tomorrow up North to play/dig/build until the end of the week. Maybe I'll be blessed with the remaining pieces at the end of the week.....

Note to self.....just wait until winter next time!

FINALLY, received a message that the remaining parts are in.....now if I was not 125 miles away from my bike and sick, I'd be all over it.....

hopefully, updated pictures coming this weekend.....

I did get to work for 45 mins on the bike this weekend. I installed the bearings for the swingarm, but ended up hosing one of them up. Fortunately, having the bearings removed by a shop gave me a clean one to install com the orignal set. A trip to autozone to rent a blind bearing pulled, extraction, freeze/heat and went in like buddah......

Im up in northern NM building in preparation for the move this weekend.

I did however bring my steering so I could cut the lower race off and install the new ones. Also brought up the carbs to clean and install jet kit. However the ranchis taking up alot of my otherwise free time.....

Will do the random discussion part and post pics of all that is going on........

Maybe before the end of May ill be finished : pray:

I'm sure the ranch will be well worth the effort, even from the few pictures (hint, hint) that I have seen. As far as the bike goes, taking the time to get it right will again be worth your patience. At least you have a MUCH longer riding season than some of us. All good things come to those who wait. :deadhorse:

Ill have some down time today because there are issues with the transformer delivering clean power to the house. Also makes a lovely little buzzing sound fit for a mad scientist secret lab......

(And no Aaron, the above was not by MY doing, for I have to go to Alb. to get a GE breaker since local sources do not carry anything compatible)

Whaaaa? There's nowhere local that carries GE / Homeline breakers? normally mom & pop stores have those... Lowes and Home Depot always do as well....

Is the power company going to replace the transformer?

I mean the closest semblance of a town with a mom/pop hardware store being 13 miles away. Not 55 to the closet Lowes.

Looks great.

The thought of not having a basement under a house is somewhat alien to us northerners.

Did you get to flatten the old shed with the Cat?

Boy do you have big woodpeckers down there. :disturbed

But seriously, the place is looking great. Even I would forego riding for such a project.

It is all how its perceived.....I've got a basement, 16-30" tall depending upon where you are located underneath......

No, unfortunately I was not given the keys to play.....
