***Official 2010 Deals Gap Thread*** (Updated OP)

BUMP! We've seen some more activity from members as of Christmas and I wanted to bump this up for any last opportunity people. Hoping we can gather a couple more forum members. Cheap and a ton of FUN with new friends!
 
i saw this thread tonight... realized it's been a while since I looked in on it... HOLY CRAP you guys have busy.

One thing I'd recommend thread wise, move all pertinent info to the first post... so people like me, who fell out of the loop can keep up.

Look like you guys have a great plan going... and a SCREAMING deal on a place to stay... Obviously, since it's in September... I'll be in class during the week, but will most likely be able to make a trip down on weekends.... The little lady and I might do a bit of camping or something....

I hope so. I don't want to go all the way down to your neck of the woods and not be able to meet you guys. Besides, we have to get you guys in the group picture!

Done! I've covered at least 90% and edited Billy's original post and asked him to please review and edit accordingly. :D
 
Outstanding job getting everything into the first post gentlemen!!! It's much easier for a slacker like me to keep up with what's happening now... AND... I just talked to the little lady... she said we're IN for at least one of the weekends of the rally... I'm thinking most likely the first one... we'll probably camp out... we got a tent as a wedding gift from some ... (asshole) nice person... ... ... ... and the wife is dying to use it...

obviously, there's LOTS of time to plan things out... but... if you have 8 people, I'd have each person responsible for one group ride... even if no-one knows the area, use Google Maps... it'll be fun for all!! it doesn't matter if you don't know where you're going... no-one will....

I'd recommend South on 129 away from Deal's Gap, to 143 (Cherohala Skyway) To Tellico Plains, then North on 360 back to 129 ... then again south on 129, but this time you'll be on the north side, heading down into Deal's Gap... then back to the CROT, and maybe down 28 for a bit... depends on where this cabin is exactly..

I'd do a day at Devil's Triangle...

a Day in / around Maggie Valley

Other roads of interest in the immediate area : 276, 151, 215, 281, 209, 107, 197, 128 .... etc. You get the point.

run Deal's Gap once or twice... do it early in the morning, or late in the evening... get your picture taken a few times.... stop at the CROT and at the overlook and talk to people.. look at bikes... but DO NOT think that 129 is the only or even best road there.... 129 is "Famous" ... but I'd rather spend the day on some of the other great roads in the area that aren't packed full of cruisers doing 15mph, sportbikes that are all over both lanes, cars towing trailers, etc.... Everyone down there will be there to see 129... yeah... 318 curves is fun... but... where I live, there are 489 Curves in 12 miles... curvy roads are EVERYWHERE in this area in the 4 hours (<--Fastest Route) between here and there.... I could sit at Google maps for the next few hours, and come up with 6+ Hour rides every day for the entire time you folks will be there... and you'll never touch the same road twice....

So... who wants to be the first volunteer to plan and lead a group ride?

I like the fact you know your way around. I am looking forword to this so bad. I am ready to load the bikes up now.

Unfortunately, I spoke to VA today, and he's still got 36" of snow surrounding his house! Imagine in North Carolina, and he's had 2 feet more than us already!

Ok, just for you, I've updated the OP with the actual GPS coordinates to the garage at the Ridge. :D Put it in and start driving NOW!!!

Billy, are you and Norm going to hook up for a shared ride with Norm's enclosed trailer?

No Eric, actually, Tony and I are driving my car down with a 5x9 uhaul in tow for the bikes. We at the lumber yard became a UHaul Dealer back last July so I can get the trailer dirt cheap for the week! I would however keep Norm available in case that CanonFuji changes his mind and decides to go with us. He knows theres only 8 confirmed as of now and that we are 2 short. His bike is still in a state of ill-repair so he's uncertain at this point.

I've collected all but my buddy Joe's funds but I'll cover and worry about him on my own. Everyone else, thanks for getting the funds to me!

I'm going to authorize Tim to charge the full amount to my card and pay for the place in full. I'll also give him the list of authorized people for the trip. In doing so, if for any reason I cannot make it (which means my wife also), then it will not stop all of you from arriving and staying those 9 nights. I won't be a cog in the wheel! :D

It's coming faster than we think! Let's start working on the food and menu again, ok? Also start thinking of the routes for day trips.

David, any word from your friends who also may want to stay? I've also extended this to a couple of friends and have yet to hear back.

I'm getting real anxious to earn my new dragon stickers for the FZ1! Can't wait to meet all of you!

Sounds great Eric. I'll get started on the list of foods to buy with the exception of any alcohol. I'll break the menu into a 2 meal a day chart. Tony and I should be there Saturday the 18th in the late afternoon. We could probably unload the bikes and head over to the supermarket at that time. Are we going to leave a "special day" where we go to some establishment to have a meal out together?
