I wanted to introduce myself because I have been sneaking around picking up as much good information (and some bad) as I can since I just got a 2006 FZ1. I have purchased a couple things from users here and they have been very kind and stayed in contact with me throughout the deals. All items that I have purchased have been exactly as described and priced very fair. Needless to say, I will definitely be around learning as much as I can to help keep my new bike in top notch shape.

Welcome, and nice looking GenII. Yes, mods can be addicting! Just tackle the "free" or close to free ones first, like a front sprocket change to a 16T, airbox mod, and AIS Block. Those cost the least.

It's an 07 dude unless the bodywork was changed. 06 only came in red and silver..

Yep, it looks like a cobalt blue 2007 model. The 2006 was red or silver as mentioned, the 2007 was blue (gold forks and black wheels) or black, 2008 gray or red, 2009 blue (black forks and greenish gold wheels) or black/gray, 2010 black or red, 2011 silver, 2012 white (blacked out rear end) and 2013 blue (blacked out rear end).

I'd recommend some frame sliders, as I didn't see any in the pic. Let us know what you decide to do to her, and just riding the bike is OK too. :rmwl:

Congrats on the bike and :welcome:

The 10th digit in the VIN will tell you the model year so that is the foolproof way to determine which model year you have. Sometimes bodywork gets changed or painted but the 10th digit tells the tale.

Very true. I was just throwing out the general colors for each year. It's always possible those were changed, but not super likely. VIN is the way to know. Good call, Evitzee. And the retro kit makes it very hard to know. Forks and wheels give a hint, but who knows.

It is a 2006. I had to second guess myself with checking the VIN and a quick phone call to the original owner lol.

Nope, it is a 07 unless bodywork was swapped out. Check Yamaha site for year colors: 2013 Yamaha FZ1 Specifications, specs Choose comparison models 06 and 07

The VIN will most likely have a 06 manufacturing date as bikes are released postdated by an year. My 07 has a 11/06 manufacturing date.

I think you might be correct in that it is a 2007. When I bought it, the title shows 06 and also the VIN has a 6 on the 10th digit suggesting it's an 06. But I see that is a model year and isn't what year the bike actually is if I am interpreting it correct. On the Yamaha site right now it shows the new 2013 FZ1's, and says "$10,790 (Cobalt Blue) 49 state model October 2012." So is that the same thing suggesting that the model was made in 2012 but is being sold as a 2013?
