Well the S and I got in some good bonding time today. I rode about 80 miles.
I started in the city, getting used to the clutch engagement point and the amount to throttle to use. I stalled it right out of the drive way. :doh2: I'm claiming the motor hadn't warmed up enough!
Then I went out into the country side to break the motor in. The bike runs very comfortably at 81. Kinda like how my FZ1 liked 93. Only that was on the Three Sister loop, not the hay bail and oil well loop. :looseit:
The motor rolls on so nicely, just twist and go! So different from the FZ1, where either you down shift twice and nail it, or wait, and wait to hit the power band.
The handling is really very good. I'll admit I'm kind of surprised. No flop like a 19" wheel usually gives. The bike is rock solid on the road. I did the wiggle the bar test and it pasted with flying cools. (At 55 wiggle the bars hard to mark the bike shake it's head hard, then let go of the bars. The bike should naturally dampen the shark.) No turns worth mentioning, but I think the bike will be very solid in the twisties. I think one could cut and thrust with this bike to a degree. It is very composed.
The brakes are wonderful! They are not a one finger brake like the Tuono, but the feel, feedback, and power is outstanding.
The shaft drive is amazing, in fact I forgot it is a shafty. The last shaft bikes I'd ridden were '80's era Yamahas. I swore I'd never own another shaft bike again. This think is really smooth, and quiet.
I didn't notice the weight after a couple of miles and my balance calibrated for it. The only time I noticed it was when coming to a stop. The seat is tall, the weight is high, and at the beginning it felt a little tipy. Again, I got used to it quickly.
I saw a couple of dirt farm roads but decided to pass on them for now. I really didn't want to detail the bike tonight.
