Let's talk about a new bike... :)

Is that from personal experience? Interested in your feedback if so :)

The interwebs is saying the Multistrada 1100 is pretty solid and like Johnny said, 15,000 mile service intervals. Anything contrary to that is interesting :)

My Nephew had a 1098s and every thing with it was expensive.
The timing belts are not cheap and a hassle to replace at 15000miles.
Also the engine used to cut out sometimes when at idle?

If you are looking for a FZ1 I will probably be selling my red 2008 in the fall or next spring. With the riding I currently have planned for this year it will have 20k on it by then.

The VFR is a great bike...I've owned 4. I've owned a 1993, 1996, 2000, and a 2002 VTEC, and loved them all, but the VTEC VFR was my favorite.

That V-4 is a sweet engine for sure and rock solid. If I were shopping for a Viffer, I'd be looking for a low mileage 2006-2009.
Don't believe all the BS you'll read concerning the VTEC, just ride one for yourself.

Can fit hard cases to them easily and the VTEC VFR had a factory luggage option. just fit an aftermarket seat and go.

I came close to buying a VFR before i found my FZ1. I just wanted something different, and I like my FZ every bit as much as my VFRs.

1999 Honda VFR 800 Interceptor

I forgot about these. Pretty awesome bikes and I love that V4 powerplant

I was reading through this whole thread pulling my hair out!!

Everything your looking for IMO.

I'd get another 2nd Gen FZ!

So I'm tossing the idea around of getting a replacement for the SV this coming winter. While it is a fabulous bike and I enjoy riding it, it takes a fair bit of abuse living with me. I would also just love a change.
I would like to get some feedback on potential bikes so I can do some research. :)
I have only a few needs:
So I have a few bikes in mind already:
- Gen 2 FZ1
- Versys
- Honda 919
- New Ninja 1000
Ideas? :)

I hear the quality control on the 919 is way up there. The new Ninja 1000 would be my choice, If I could not find another FZ1 like mine. Sorry Dustin, but I just do not have enough experience on these Japanese Rockets.
:unworthy::unworthy::unworthy:

Before I got the FZ1 it came down to a choice between the VFR and the FZ1. I don't know why but I fell in love with the FZ1 though I would still like a VFR some day.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I will put the VFR on my short list. I wonder if it will be quirky or interesting enough that I will enjoy it.

Bayouscoot, what kind of mileages did your VFRs have? I know full well that 60,000 miles is nothing for VFRs (and FZ1s) but I'm curious to know from your perspective

There are plenty of VFR owners on VFRD that have 50,000-100,000 miles on their bikes. The V-4 of the VFR has been around for a long time, in it's different generations, and is a solid machine with a near cult-like following.

The 2002 VTEC VFR I had was set up for sport-touring. My wife suddenly took an interest in moto-touring after I bought that bike. We spent two summers taking 2-up trips, ten days at a time covering 3,000-5,000 miles each trip. The only reason I sold my last VFR, was to move up to a ST1300, due to taking so many moto-vacations with my wife.

See, I love the Honda V-4s...I've also owned a 1998 ST1100, and a 2003 ST1300. Call it an addiction. :)

And the music of a VFR with aftermarket exhaust...ahhhhhhh

So I've pretty much decided--I want a gen 2 FZ1 :) I blame all the guys here with those great looking nakeds.

I know it's exactly what I'm looking for and you really can't find a better bike for the money. The prospect of a naked conversion, all that power and inexpensive suspension upgrades is very enticing and that's what really sold me.

So, I think I will keep the SV until next spring and save my pennies in that time so I can pick up a gen 2 during the winter

Look at that sexy beast... That nearly sells it right there :)

To throw a wrench into the works... I test rode a VFR 800 VTEC today. Nice bike and the V4 sounds mean. I like the motor and it's got lots of great power all over the place as well as a nice kick after VTEC hits. Not scary fast but quite nice

Comfy, nice place to be and great gauges. Felt good to ride.

Nice bike and a great sport-tourer, but heavier and underpowered (obviously) when compared to the FZ1. It does have a sweet exhaust note :)

Yes, it was a porker which I don't like. The gen 1 was a porker as well and that's why I sold it. The motor is excellent though, even if it doesn't have the same top end of the FZ1

I need to ride a gen 2 again now as a direct comparison.

:fencers:Maybe I'm just getting old but to my eyes the Ducati Multistrada is one of the pugugliest bikes I've seen since the Honda pacific coast. But then again if we were all alike we would all be gunning for the same toys.

VFR is a super cool bike. I looked at 919s when I was shopping naked bikes. Loved the look from afar but a little dated looking when on it. Also, just didn't match up to an FZ1 performance-wise.
I also looked at Italian bikes, but was strongly cautioned that I would not like them because I like to do lots of miles and don't have a lot of time or tools.
FZ8 has its merits, but the adjustable suspension on the FZ1 is very nice. Also, more mods available, the GenII has been around for 6 years now.
After all of my shopping, I decided to go with an FZ1. The Ducati Streetfighter is a little sexier looking, but not enough to choke on the lack of reliability. I've run my FZ1 as much as 1000 miles in a weekend, no complaints from me or the bike. Great for touring, very fast when you ask for it.
If you're in to naked bikes, this pic is practically porn. Whatever you decide, happy riding!

I do like the FZ8, I really do. The only thing that stops me from getting one over an FZ1 is the fact the FZ1 is more plentiful on the used market, cheaper and better equipped. I would pay the same insurance rate and the fuel tank is smaller I believe as well.

I do really like the idea of the FZ8 though

If you owned a Gen 1 I think you would be disappointed power wise with the FZ8. I drove one and would not trade my Gen 1 for an 8 but then again you went from a Gen 1 to a SV 650 so maybe not a big deal.
You should get out and put miles on all you are considering then choose, I would never buy a bike or sled without seat time. You do not want to be stuck with something that you end up hating.....as they say you can put lipstick on a pig but at the end of the day it is still a pig.
One more option keep your 650 and take your money and go buy a turbo Apex mountain sled..........send me pic from Whistler please
