I'm new here.

Hey guys,
Long time rider here. I'm near 50, been riding forever. Wife and I rack up about 15K per year on the Harley Ultra. I had a 2007 FZ6 for awhile for riding 1 up. I traded it for a quad and regretted it the next day.So I just this afternoon, traded the quad for a 2002 FZ1 with a new Shoei RF-1000, new unmounted Dunlop Roadsmart tires, new GYTR can, tank bag, tail bag, Alpinestar gloves, recent valve adjustment and major service, heated grips and new chain and sprockets. It's also got PAZZO levers, a jet kit, fender eliminator kit, zero gravity double bubble windscreen ,Hyperpro front and rear springs (unsure of weight) , ivans jet kit , rizoma turn signals front and rear , Yamaha chin spoiler

Only thing I was a little sad about is that it has 29,000 miles. Tires on it are near new, so the extras will not be needed 'till late next year I think.
$3,000.00 for it all, so I know I didn't get hurt at that price. And this thing is a blast. TONS MORE POWER than the little FZ6. Shocked the crap outta me the first time I got on it a little in 1st gear and the front wheel jumped off the road. Actually it didn't jump, it rose up nicely !!!
Does everyone but me have a steering stabilizer?

:welcome: and congrats! Sounds like you happened upon a sweet setup! Curious to know what other mods the guy did to this bike. :D

Post some pics when you get the chance. Glad to see you out having fun at 50! I'll be 45 soon and hope 50 doesn't change my riding either!

Man, 50 ain't nothin'. I stay in shape and don't have many aches or pains. 6'0" tall and about 165 lbs. I need to detail the bike and then I'll post a pic. I'm anal about my stuff and this bike was sprinkled on and not cleaned, so it has spots. Only thing I saw wrong with it is the boots between the carbs and the engine are dry and cracked. Any idea the cost for that repair?
Thanks.
This thing runs like a raped ape !!! Fastest bike I ever rode, hands down.

Thank you both for making me feel young at 39! :jk:

Welcome to FZ1-Forum.com! I am fairly new here to but I can tell you there are some great folks here. ...and very knowledgable to boot.

Thanks for the micro,,,,yep, I need 2 #18 and 2 #19. The inners are a little diff. from the outer pair. I need to know where to get a shop manual too. Any ideas?
Ebay?
Thanks again !!!

Welcome to our humble abode. We are glad to have you along. I am the other side of your coin. I'll be 48 in a couple of weeks. I have the mind of a 20 year old and my body feels like a 60 year old. I know its totally up to me to get in shape but I guess I'm just lazy.

Please post some shots as Eric has said. We just love pictures here. We also have two separate contests where you can win some much need "Forum Cash" to use in the casino. I think you have time to enter this months M.B.O.M. contest.

Welcome and to answer the question from your first post I think most people actually don't have steering stabilizers on their FZ1's. Bike doesn't have very aggressive steering geometry (especially a Gen I like yours) and with the long wheelbase they tend to be fairly stable.

I wouldn't worry about replacing the boots unless the bike isn't running correctly. As long as the cracks aren't going all the way through the boots, they aren't affecting anything except looks, and nobody runs around looking at other people's carb boots, I don't believe.

There is also stuff like liquid tape you can put over the boots and seal them back up so they don't look so bad. Beats the hell out of $80 plus shipping, plus the labor of swapping them out.

Welcome to the group. You didn't say if you still had the Ultra, but if you are like most guys who get an FZ1, the Ultra better get used to sitting more in the garage than being used. Your mileage isn't anything to be concerned about as long as the bike has had decent maintenance. I've only had my "08" for eleven months and I've put 12,600 miles on it. It's barely broken in properly. Luckily you live in an area where you can ride year around. Ride that thing! :stunta]:

The Ultra is my first choice, hands down, sorry. This FZ1 is even more fun than my FZ6, but it is an entirely different bike than the Ultra. The FZ will see duty for riding to work and any time I ride 1 up, which isn't often if the wife is around. I like all bikes and would ride a big scooter to work if I had one. I like the cruise, stereo and comfort of the Ultra. I love the power, handling, looks of the FZ. All bikes have something to offer and they're all fun !!!
What cracks me up are the Harley guys that won't wave when I'm on a sport bike and the sport bike riders that won't wave when I'm on the Harley. I'm the same guy, just on a different bike. I like toys !!!
If I had the $$$, I'd have a dozen different bikes in my garage.

We like Shiny Pictures

I'll order the boots and replace them myself. I don't mind spending the $80.00. I'm anal about my stuff/toys.

Harley guys like chrome, and we here like Big Glossy Photos, Hint Hint... The one you use for your Avatar looks nice, it just hurts my eyes to squint that hard.:eek5:

I'd rather have a fuel injected Gen.II, but for $3K and all the extras I got, I'll live with it. I like the silver, I'm old and boring, but the way I see it, I don't think it'll attract as much "police" attention as the loud colors on the pure sport bikes, I hope.
This thing is AWFUL hard to obey the suggested speed limit on. Know what I mean?
And when does an FZ1 owner suddenly become a pro racer,,,,the minute he sits on the bike or the minute he starts to take off? Man, I hit a corner and think I should speed up, it's CRAZY !!!
