I dunno if anybody else is following this youtube trend, but it's kinda funny. Each vid is only 30 seconds. I'm partial to the motorcycle ones, LOL

Today I heard about some kids that got in trouble for posting their own version of the Harlen Shake. Don't recall the exact details, but their team (don't remember the sport) got barred from competing over the video. YouTube even took it down...

I heard something about that too, but the details also escape me. Seems like a silly reason to get in trouble, but the devil is in the details, I suspose. Of course, I've heard of very young kids getting kicked out of school for pointing their finger at another student and pretending his finger was a gun. WTF? I think I did that almost every day at that age. Oh well. I'll climb in the stupid handbasket and ride it to hell with the rest of the country... not much choice for a while.

Yeah!
That is crazy! About 12 kids got suspended for their parts in 3 different videos made. Here is the news story. At least one of the videos is in the link - I don't think it's that bad but then again - I didn't have a perfect record in high school : oops:

Calvary Baptist Academy will have dozens fewer students this morning when teachers call roll after school officials suspended several for participating in a series of YouTube videos.

About 40 students between eighth and 12th grade were suspended Wednesday for their part in one of three videos with students performing the “Harlem Shake.” The videos feature members of the school’s baseball and wrestling teams, as well as a high school English class. School officials say the video is “vulgar” because of the students’ attire and gyrations.

“This wasn’t a knee-jerk decision,” assistant principal Kevin Guerrero said. “Myself and the principal as well as the superintendent began meeting yesterday to discuss the videos and any action we should take.”

From those meetings, Guerrero said officials determined the videos violated the school’s police regarding the use of social networks and the negative image such videos could have on the school, as well as Calvary Baptist Church.

Guerrero declined to say how long the students would be suspended but said school officials were fair and consistent in punishment.

“All of these kids are really good kids that made a bad decision,” Guerrero said. “Unfortunately, what they did was very inappropriate, and it’s a no-win situation for all of us.”

As of Wednesday night, the videos saw more than 4,000 views and climbing. Calls to students for comment were not returned before press time.

Since the school’s decision, Guerrero said several parents expressed their displeasure with the suspension, but officials stand by the punishment.

“We understand some parents are upset, and I’ve spoken to several of them who say their child didn’t do as much as another and should have a lesser punishment,” Guerrero said. “That may be a valid point and I understand that, but we determined to stay consistent and hold each student accountable.”

Guerrero said his interest lies with protecting the church, and he hopes the suspension will stop other students from creating such videos.

“We have to do what’s in the best interest of the church, as well as the students,” he said. “It’s best to learn this lesson now while you’re still in high school than when they are out in the world trying to find a job.”

Well unfortunately these days kids (and even adults) underestimate the importance of posting stuff in social networking sites that may be considered inappropriate. I try to send that message to my kids all the time...be careful what you post because it may come back to bite you.

I went to Bishop O'Dea High School, a Christian Brothers School in Seattle, and am familiar with the higher standards that as a student we were held to. I remember it took me almost 3 months when I was a freshman college to not wear my poloshirt and khaki pants to class and dress in jeans and t-shirts like everybody else.

I watched that video and the gratuitous homosexual type behavior is probably what pissed off the admin's the most. My school was all boys and it did react heavy handedly toward homoesexual reference/slurs/etc type behavior.

The fact of the matter is that somebody is always watching now.
