Gas milage

Hi All,

Well I've got a gas hog ? Filled up and hit the road for break in, after about 111 miles this low fuel light come on and said I have less than a mile to go before I'm out. I can hear more in there but I was wondering what you all get for mileage. I have a 09, 180 miles on the clock.. Book said 35 mpg, thanks.

Low fuel light? Also what said you have a mile to go? My '06 just started a count up trip meter when fuel was low, the '09's are different?
 
If you're bike is like my 07, you have a 4.76 gal tank and a reserve of .9 gal. After the light comes on and flashes, you have almost a gallon. Should be 30+ more miles - whatever you get on average...

On my '09 I have just about 1 1/4 gal. left when the fuel low indicator comes on. 110 miles sounds just about tright for the light to be coming on. At least in my experience. I get less than 35mpg though.
 
OK comes on with a gallon or ? left then counts up. that makes sense as that is what it was doing. I thought it was all F'd up. OK so I have fuel left. Was sloshing around and could here more than a cup left in there. So what kinda octane you all use ? I've never used other than 87 in my bikes. And I called the shop and asked about that fuel gage They had no clue.
 
Nothing but Super Unleaded here; the higher the octane the better....some may tell you different....This Bad Boy I got drinks a lot of it....

I have a 09 FZ1 that's still pretty new - less than 500miles. I've gotten 37.5mpg to date (2 fillups), course I'm still in the breakin period so its getting romped only up to 6000rpm.

Mine runs fine on reg - 87. I'll be paying attention when its hotter this summer so see if I hear it knocking. If I do, I'll try the mid grade.
 
I have to admit this was a bit of a culture shock for me coming from the FZ6 that likes to go up to 50 mpg on average. I was wondering if I was doing something wrong when I was getting 35 or better on the highway. I'm thinking about doing a rear sprocket change to get better mileage off it.

I used to do the higher priced gas with my FZ6 when I bought it, but I found I really wasn't getting any benefit from spending the money either from mileage or performance.
 
Last Sunday I filled up and then drove 120 mi at pretty steady speed of 70-75 mph around The Hill Country then refilled the tank. Doing the math gave me just at 43 mpg. That's the best I've ever got. A lot depends on how much and how hard you wick the throttle. And I only use 87 octane, no sense wasting money.
 
Tell you what....fill up with 87 and measure your milage...then slap some shell super in it and measure your milage....Missy you riding that bike of yours at 2 am in the morning in DFW, Texas and you are just asking for trouble....its just not safe.....man or woman....its Bar closing time and way too many drunks on the road at that time....

Completely irrelevant and pointless unless you can control all the conditions exactly for each test.

If you like it, good for you! Same with tinting your headlamps! To each his own :dontknow:
