FZ! Exhaust and valves

Just have a couple of questions for all of you experts. My 2003 fz1 has 18k on it when should I look at the valve clearances ? Also I am wanting to put on a slip on exhaust, I am leaning towards the yoshi 1320255 or I was wondering about the YA2012 M4.. The M4 looks as nice and is $60 cheaper.. Has anybody had experience with both of these, if so which would you recommen?. Not looking for any more power out of this beast, just a nice tone. Thanks in advance for your input.
 
1st valve check is suppose to be at 26,000. I don't think I have ever heard of anyone finding them off much at 26K but there is always the possibility. I would think a lot of high RPM riding would affect it most.I don't know anything about the slip on mufflers.
