Hi All,

Well today was going to be PCV Dyno Tune day but the mechanics workshop is 100km ride from home and it was raining heavy this morning, so it will be another day.....hopefully it will be before Xmas.

Something I did question after reading the PowerCommander manual was about gear calibration. The manual says:

"GEAR CALIBRATION
Once speed is calibrated you can then setup up gear
position if needed. Get the bike on a stand or dynamometer
and put the bike in first gear. Hold the throttle steady and
click on calibrate for gear 1. Repeat this step for all gears"

1)Can someone provide some more information about this or explain how this works?

2)Does this mean the A/F ratios are tuned on the PCV for everygear?

3)I was under the impression the dyno tune to set up the PCV was a run on the dyno in a selected gear (4th?) to check A/F ratios across the rev range and then the PCV was adjusted where required to get the optimal A/F r's?
Does this sound right?

Your feedback would be appreciated.

Cheers!

After posting this, I’ve looked across the net and think I found some info…...

from what I’ve read, the gear and speed calibration on the PCV is only required if you create a map with more than one table. Basically, there is a separate map for each gear. For these features to work you need to splice wires from the harness/speedo and connect them to the terminals on the PCV.

I also believe you have to run an auto tune module to run multiple maps. The theory is that the auto tune will trim or add fuel as required for each gear.

From what ive read on the auto tune module, it sounds great in theory, but just dosn't have the calculation speed and accuracy to actually work as described.

Has anyone looked into running multiple maps? This is giving me a headache!!

I think one single custom map with the basic fuel/throttle position table is enough. Going to keep it simple
:D

You may as well have the guy do the calibration while your there. Takes no time at all and its done if you ever need it.

If you ever decide to use a quick shifter you can also have different kill times for each gear if its calibrated. Most bikes like a longer kill time for the 1-2 shift and less for the other gears.

Save the money on the dyno tune. Get an autotune setup and an LCD-200 and do everything yourself.

The speed and gears indicator is really handy later in the data logs.

If you bough the PCV specific to your bike and still run the stock sprocket ratio you should be fine.

It's been a while...

First you need to put your bike on stand. (Rear wheel off the ground)
Configure > Speed = Set speed (ex. 40 MPH) then start the bike and put the bike in gear (side stand up) I used 6th gear... keep it steady at 40 MPH and hit CALIBRATE on the PC screen. Now your scalar # is set.

After that configure gears, same thing but all you need to do is go through the gear at idle... been working for me. Click CALIBRATE for each gear. Then you can click smooth something on the bottom... that's it, your done.

Thats the 2 things you need to do when you change sprocket ratio, well 3 if you have a Speedo Healer. Calibrate your speedo (I used my GPS) first.

Have fun!
