Does this piss you off as much as it does me?

Life has been tough for me and my familly the last few months. So, I decided to take my son out in the forest for a spin on the dirt bikes. We meet up with a buddy and his friends, and went looking for some single track. Between the single track and the fire roads, we ended up burnin 41 miles in 6 hrs. It was an awesome day and a great way to blow off some of the sh*t thats been piling on us.

So, its the end of the day, and we take a break at this beautiful little creek.

We were enjoying the moment, when I saw something in the water. Turned out that it was a freakin beer can. Who the frick goes out in the woods to an awesome location and leaves thier garbage? It just really pissed me off. And since Im always trying to show my son the "right thing",I had no choice but to go get it.

Am I the only one who would risk some major shrinkage for a stupid beer can?

Yup, upsets me a great deal. I mountain bike often and few of the trails I ride have spots which are littered with broken beer bottles. Occasionally see empty cans and have seen empty beer cases. Hate it.

oh and LOL @ risking shrinkage!

You Are Not Alone

I get to see a lot of back roads and trails where I ride. I have come across piles of garbage that campers and partyers have left behind. It make my blood boil! They are like locust, use up, discard and screw the next guy. I have picked up trash and carried it out, but it feels like trying to bail out a sinking ship with a cup.

I commend you for instilling the right attitude in your children, that is where it has to start. That said, everyone has to take responsibility for their own actions, something that is seriously lacking in today's world.

I have seen too many trails get closed for the sole reason that the nearby land owners were tired of the thoughtless party crowd leaving trash and fire pits all over.

Every place I camp I end up taking out more garbage than I created.

Thats pretty much what we do too. When we got back to the stageing area, I couldnt help but notice the garbage that is starting to build up. I told my son that we need to bring some garbage bags and clean the staging area next time.

For some reason, it really pisses me off when we are on the trail, and come across some dirt bike plastic from somone's crash.

Many years ago the Four Wheel Drive club I belonged to volunteered to clean up an off-road area near Coal City, Illinois. We hauled out literally tons of garbage, appliances, wrecked autos and furniture.

The county thanked us and made the area off-limits to any recreational vehicle. So much for good-will but at least we felt good about cleaning up a wetland environment.

I pick up and keep/ re-use anything that I break off on the trails, but I know what you mean. It isn't like that stuff is going to bio-degrade is it.:disapproval:

No good deed goes unpunished.

I live in an area that has more than its fair share of broke d*ck red necks. They are very good at growing refrigerators and dryers out in the woods. The best are especially good at growing rusted cars.

I was trying to think if I saw any trash on my ride the first part of the week, and I think I can honestly say, I didn't.
Kudos for the respect that was shown to Colorado.
You're a good man for taking the time & risking personal dignity to pick up another man's junk......(pun intended)
