Ever seen BMW shaft drive crap itself or ridden one on the way out? I'll stick with a relatively cheap n easy to replace chain thanks.
There is a used 1200R currently advertised for sale by a BMW dealer. Seems like it has about 48,000 miles. They say their "safety inspection" revealed that the rear main seal was leaking (engine seal) so they replaced that - but that leak took out the clutch plates, also - so they replaced those. And they also went ahead and replaced both front and rear shaft bearings.
I don't know about you - but that seems like a lot of kind of major stuff going bad with a shaft drive - on a supposedly "high quality" motorcycle. They claimed - no worries for the new owner for a long time, though.
Looks like BMW motorcycles are like their four wheeled cousins - prone to often and expensive maintenance -- essentially rich people's play things, perhaps?
