I have been researching tires and ran across these Continental Motions. They are getting great reviews on Motosport.com and I wanted to see if anyone on FZ1-Forum has tried these tires out or knows anyone who runs them? For the money they look hard to beat. I run street only, the boss won't let me run at the track:( Any input would be greatly appreciated.:sport12:

Like you, I've heard great things about the Conti Motions as a commuter tire. I just ordered a set for a project bike I've got in my garage (Ninja 650R) so I'll let you know how they are when I get the bike rolling
 
For whatever it worth, I did liked them a lot for the type of riding I do. On my 6R they felt very solid, even in the rain. Now I'm not quite sure with twice the ponies... I would think for normal driving they should be fine. I won't go try to beat the record through the Dragon with those... lol It's a solid 60% Touring- 40% Sport tire.

The only reason I didn't get another set is because they were out of stock on the rear 160... so I went with the PR2. I don't have nothing wrong to say about the PR2, but I felt more confident with the conti motion. The bike was more stable at freeway speed. They like to run a bit high in psi. My bike recommend F33/36 R36/42 The sweet spot for me was F40 R42 psi. I went out with the same psi with the PR2 and I had a fair amount of wobble... had to bring them down to 33/36 and still... not quite as stable. I will go back with the Conti-Motion later...

I found a pic that I took around 7K miles... They were good enough to drag pegs with a 3/8" or so

You have to consider the type of riding you do and the price you want to pay, then find the tire to match.

I don't think I would use them on a heavy, powerful bike that I only took out to twisty roads on dry days in the same sense that I wouldn't buy the latest hypersport tire (Q2s and the like) for my day-to-day riding, plodding along at city speeds year 'round
 
I had a 1998 VFR800Fi that I put a set of these on. Now keeping in mind that the VFR didn't have the power or torque the FZ1 has, but I got very good results from them. I only put about 1000 miles on them before selling the bike, so I can't speak for the longevity of them. But I will say that they didn't have any squaring or wear of any kind when I sold them. I ran them at 36 psi front and 38 psi rear. The only thing I didn't like about them is that it took quite a few miles for them to "warm up" and feel like they were sticky. I was always nervous through the first curves because they didn't give much feedback to give you confidence in the turns. I think if you're commuting a lot, and don't like to push them REALLY HARD they are a great tire for the money.

I put a set of Conti Motions on a bike I helped build up for a friend. Before we gave her the bike, I spent a few days riding it around just to give it a shake down and scrub in the new tires.

I only put about 80km on (50 miles) the Conti Motions but I was pretty pleased with how they felt and gripped in our winter(y) conditions. It was enough to convince me to try them next on my commuter bike when these Shinko 009s wear out
 
for what its worth, I put them on my triumph sprint st 955i, twice. They were great. The first pair I got 8500 miles out of them. The only issue I had with them, was hitting crack sealer after tsunami like rain on the interstate. I rode them pretty hard, and was pretty heavy on the throttle hand with the triumph.
 
I have done a bunch of research on these tires and have recieved feedback for them on everything from R6, 600 GSXR, and Ninja's to ZX10's, ZX14's, R1's and Busa's and I have not found or recieved a bad report on them yet. Here is a couple of reviews from Motorsport.com

"I have used the Continental Motion Tires for a year now. They are high mileage usage tires and when you need them for performance they produce better than indicated. 7500 miles and more on the rear tire of my ZX14 is outstanding. The grip in corners and when I am doing canyon riding is even better. I have used Pilots and Qualifiers but these tires give the same performance."

"I purchased the Continental Motion tire combo for my 2006 ZX-10R. I have been riding for over 25 years and have always rode on Dunlops. I did my research on the tires and also read countless reviews before actually placing my order. I wish I wouldn't have waited so long! The tires have amazing grip ( first ride with them it was 41 degrees). Even at the cold temperature, the felt like slicks at 90 degrees. They absorbed the rode imperfections gracefully with very little transfer to the grips. The reviews were a big factor in buying them, so I hope this helps someone else make a change that they won't regret. I am impressed and pleased with them thoroughly."

These are just a couple of the posititve reviews I have found on these tires. Like I said I have not found a bad review on them yet. I also talked the local motorcycle dealerships in my area of the state (SE, Wisconsin - West Bend, Cedarburg, Grafton areas) and they all say the Conti Motion's are excellent tires and hard to beat for the money.

I will be putting a set on my 07 FZ1 this spring and will give a review of these tires on this thread.

I have been running my Conti Motions for 2500 miles or so and have had no complaints in dry weather. The rain and cold has come and I have zero confidence and feel from these. I'm very unhappy with their performance and suspect they will continue to get worse as temperatures drop. I ride in the rain a lot and have never experienced this from a brand new tire

I've never run a tire that I've wanted to get rid of before; it's quite a surprise! I've ordered Pilot Road 3s and taking this as an 'I told you so' moment from all the people who told me to get them in the first place.

I've had a few more days of rainy riding since this post and I'm now starting to think that maybe the road surface was just really slick those first few days of rain.

I am from a rainy climate and the amount of dry weather we've had this year was very unusual so I don't often experience that 'oils coming up out of the asphalt' thing that you people in dry climates do. I'm used to wet weather riding and am not often sketched out with slippery conditions so this really threw me off.

Thoughts? :shine:
 
Re PR3

Well I have had my second season -the first I rode with PR2 CT's . coming off a
belted tire on a CBX they really impressed me. Mileage was about 7,000 kilometers.This summer i changed over to PR3,they are great. If the milage is better with them I will stay with PR3's otherwise I will revert back to the PR@ CT's.I do not do a lot of riding in the rain- my vote I lean to the PR2's. mind you My bile is off the road as of the 12 of October. We have two inches of snow on the ground as of now.

I guess it was partially down to the road surface. They feel a bit better these days. It's still raining buckets but I feel a lot more confident than before. There is still a lack of feedback, though.

I think I will try to sell the Contis for close to what I paid and get the PR3s on after I pick them up

Conti are great for me here in FL since it never get cold... but not a compound of tire I will use up North when it gets cold for sure.

Ride them in the upper range of the recommended psi. Like most of the review I read said, the C/M like to run a little higher in PSI... Great tire for FL, you will like them.

I put 11K or so on my rear tire and I'm trying to double stint my front. Wasn't a good idea to be honest. For the extra $80.00 I will change both from now on...
