Big Sur day ride 2-up

My wife and I decided mid week last week that we were going out on FZ1 for a whole day either Sat or Sun. Turned out to Sunday. The high temp in Big Sur was to be about 63F according to the weather reports with partially cloudy skys. We left at about 10:30. This is the loop I planned.

The ride down to Big Sir was nice. It was a little cool going over Hwy 17, but the temp was perfect south of Carmel. We stopped and ate at the over priced Napenthe Restaurant, but the view is awesome.

The views along the coast were incredible.

We were waiting for a traffic light while road construction has Hwy 1 down to a single lane at this point.

Well that was all good. Then we made our way to Nacimiento-Furgusen Rd. and headed east. The view down to Hwy 1 is stunning in real life.

Anyway, no more photos were taken until the shimmy. Here is me investigating.

Turns out the valve stem failed. I was not happy.

So we call AAA and get a tow truck.

We made it home safely and the tow truck driver was a nice guy. Santa Clara Cycle popped the bead and installed the higher quality valve stem that I had on hand.

M

A fun ride brought to a halt by a tiny little valve. :frown: At least the only thing hurting was your wallet

Great photos

My wallet is no worse for wear. I have AAA premium membership which gives me up to 200 miles of towing including motorcycles and RVs. I just signed up in February too!

Man that's a bummer. That is a beautiful ride.

I remember evening I was flying out of San Jose, and we followed the coast down to LA. The pilot was totally cool and was about 1/4 off the coast over the ocean. The view is stunning.

Is the Big Sur area state/national park? The reason I ask is NOTHING is there. Which I think is perfect.

We still had a great time. I got the same treatment on a flt down the coast once. Very cool indeed!

There is a state park there. You'll have to google it.

Thanks Billy! We already have plans to do it again. I want to see Hearst Castle anyway. May have to do a bed and breakfast.

That castle is pretty awesome to see. However, the bus ride to the castle will be kind of scary. You'll see what I mean when you take the trip ;)

I'm just happy it happened on a strait section of road. Anything other than a gentle bend would have been disastrous. My wife is awesome. She puts a whole bunch of trust in me and I don't want to fail her.

Atta boy! Isn't it great having a good woman.

Whole different ball game with a pillion.

I went to these 90 Degree Japanese Motorcycle Valve Stems Bike Effects on my Wing and the KTM comes with them.

Jeff is the owner of Bike Effects in the North Bay, good guy.

That's the same valve stem I now have. I picked up 4 of them via Amazon, but had gotten a new rear tire prior to their arrival. The other 2 will go on my spare wheel set.

Well happy to hear that things worked out somewhat ok, it could have been worse....
and I'm looking forward to seeing more pics once you get to "finish" the trip

Wow I've never heard of that on a streetbike happening. Glad to hear nothing worse happened.

Nice pics, we luv that ride and hope to do it again in the summer.
