Anyone else had an awesome ride today?

It's been miserably HOT here in the North East. Got out for a couple of short rides, but nothing to brag about. Hoping the weather breaks soon.
Central New England has gone from same heat to the cool rain out front of Tropical Storm Debby. Got a late cool cloudy start @ 3:30 today telling wife "I'm sure I'll hit rain". Took about 10 minutes to get wet. Kept heading into it and it let up 10 minutes later, so I still got a 2 hour ride in. Hate to say it ..........but it's getting dark earlier.

We got a break from rain and heat this weekend. high 70s and sunny. I HAD to get out, and picked a longer route to Cumberland Falls SP. Really nice road, but it's hit or miss on traffic. Almost no passing lanes for getting around the slow cagers, but it was good. The route wend down to Williamsburg, KY and west toward home on 478, a nice, twisty, and kind of technical road with no curve speed signs to give you a heads up on the sharper blind curves. Still a fun road until you catch a LEO following a REALLY slow car. it was all good, though, and I stayed cool for the entire ride! A perfect day!

A few months ago, I installed LED headlight bulbs - BeamTech. I haven't actually done a night ride to really test them out. Since I got in later yesterday, I went back out when it got dark for a test. I am loving these bulbs! It's like night and day compared to the stock bulbs. After dark was actually a bit chilly in the mesh gear, though...

I had an awesome ride last week. A couple of friends and I tried to ride the upper half of the Wyoming Backcountry Discovery Route. We completed the lower half last year.

We started in Bairoil and rode to Atlantic City, Wyoming (not NJ, Hahaha) on the new route to the west, bypassing the Beaver Rim sand fest on the north side of highway 287. There are many reports the the Beaver Rim section is very difficult and includes lots of sand. Not for me.

We continued to Lander for the night. The next day we rode to Shoshoni and to Ten Sleep for the night.

The next day we headed north on the route to Burgess Junction. We quickly ran into Wyoming mud. The kind of mud that clings to tires and doesn't clear whether your going 2 mph or 60 mph. We turned around and headed back to Lander via tarmac (boo).

We eventually made it back to home in Colorado. We rode 1515 miles mostly on dirt over 6 days.

I didn't take my FZ, but I was on a Yamaha: a WR250R. Does that count?

All bikes count. Especially another Yamaha 😁 Sounds like a fun trip!

Epic adventure in paradise.

Got the chores done late yesterday so had to settle for a 3 hour ride into CT. Hopefully will get longer ride today. Temp yesterday in central new england was in the 60s and felt cold with my blood now thinned by summer and wearing only a t-shirt under mesh. Will have some warmer gear for today's ride.

Sun's setting at 7:30 now and summer is slipping away. Don't put off those rides folks.

Damn, just checked temps in western mass, 55 degrees for most of the day on Aug 21.

This is my favorite time of year to ride on the east coast . Bring a couple of base layers and end up in a tee shirt and vented jacket by the afternoon. Hope to get out this weekend !

Last weekend I had an awesome solo ride up Angeles Crest Highway to Mt Wilson. This is a high peak above Los Angeles, home to an observatory with several telescopes along with numerous broadcast antennas. This was my first >10 mile ride on the new blue Gen 1 FZ.

Weekends are usually busy with cars and motorcycles but it wasn't bad, in fact on the ride up there was nobody in front or behind me the entire ride.

I was quite comfortable on my "old" motorcycle, a spirited pace, but nowhere near pushing the limits of either the bike or my riding ability. It reminded me of how awesome these bikes are (I have a naked silver one too) and that I really don't need a fancy new bike.

IMG_4331.webpDid this ride yesterday. 290ish niles of all back country roads. It was great. No traffic, not a whole lot of cars really. Rte was 400 miles total and ended the day in my buddies pool with some IPA. It was s good one.

Around a couple errands, kept the tradition going of getting out for a ride on 1st day of kids back to school. Got 85 miles in.
NH must be a little ahead of MA for going back to school. I did about 225 miles yesterday in MA and didn't see any school buses. I'm sure we won't be far behind. i've noticed enforcement is up a little in anticipation.

They have already been back 3 weeks down here. Wasn't that way when I was a kid.

Low fifties last night in central New England. It may only reach low 60s this afternoon even though there is bright sunshine.

My favorite riding season, but you can feel the end of summer. Hope to get 250 in today. I've been exploring parts of western Mass I'm not too familiar with (there's still a few) around Chesterfield Gorge and points north and west of there. Love these rural area but gasoline is hard to find. Nice to have Gen 1 range. Been getting a reliable 200 miles per tank.

Summer riding was lighter than I expected this year with only about 4500 miles. Spring riding was plentiful. If I were starting earlier today I would have had to hook up the heated gear.

As much as like mesh gear I sure feel more confident and cozy in my heavy leather and armored textile pants.

Time to ride folks, the summer will soon be a memory!!

My bike and gear are ready to roll for a ride today. High around 74 and sunny is the forecast! I didn't ride last weekend. Holiday weekends seem to increase the number of impaired drivers on the roads, so I generally avoid those weekends. Plus, it was really humid and temps in the high 80s. Today will be a lot better! Just need to figure out which route looks best for today and I'm out of here.
For today, I think the mesh will stay in the closet and it will be the vented gear instead. Should be perfect!

Stay off I-75. Did they catch the shooter yet

I don't think so. I'm planning on sticking to the more local roads, but I avoid interstates like the plague. With the man hunt still going on, it's hard to say where he could be at this point, though. I'll have to check out the news before I actually head out.

Hmmm... since the manhunt is ongoing, they aren't saying where they think he is, but they say they have the area contained... Unless he managed to get by them in the very wooded area... In a car, he could easily have made it into most of my routes. I'm starting to re-think the ride. Low probability of an issue, but the consequences could be high. If he is on the run, he would likely be on the backroads... like I would be! Hmmm... I might have to wait this one out and do some wrenching today instead.... dang-it! I'm 99% sure I would be ok, but with that issue in the back of my mind, it's probably not going to be an epic ride. Bummer!

Update... I didn't ride, and they still haven't found the shooter. Then I hear that his plans ended in taking his own life. It sounds like there is likely no shooter now, but they may not ever find him out in the terrain that he disappeared into. OK, the remnants of the hurricane are promising rain for this weekend. Maybe a good ride day is coming soon.

Last Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday did 230 to 250 each day. Hoping to get out tomorrow for another 250. Was shooting for a 1000 mile week but will probably come up a little short.

My current chain, third one on this Gen 1 will probably need replacement by end of season. PR4s still holding up well but getting a little squared off.

Perfect weather this last week and looks like it make go on to next weekend in New England.

Trees are changing colors in western MA. Get out there folks...... it's time to ride.
