One of my friends from the Aprilia forum died on the 12th. I just learned of it today.

On a contentious forum Richard was a nice, down to earth person who was never mean but funny.

When I heard the news I cried. I'd never met Richard but he was a kind heart.

Track Day at age 62!

*******************************************************

It is with such great sadness that I have been asked to inform the Motorcycle community of Richards passing today. He was killed in a Motorcycle accident near Ga 575, in which his Widow Noel Jenkins could only speculate did not involve another vehicle as the exact details are yet known. Someone saw it from a distance and reported it to the Local authorities. When they found him off the road he was breathing but not conscious. An airlift was called in but he passed before it arrived.

Richard was an amazing man and one of my best friends, though I had only known him 4 years. He began coming to our SE rally events in the NC mtns in 2010. Richard had been riding motorcycles longer than some of us had been alive. He used to race many years ago, and even last year at the age of 62 could hang with some pretty good riders. Richard was also an amazing resource for this forum and his many friends alike. If there was something he didn't know off the top of his head, he'd research it and get you an answer. He was one of the brightest people I have ever known, having attended Georgia Tech back in his early years. I am sure so many of you in the AF1 community have Naimchase stories you would like to share. Feel free to post them here or send them to his home address which I could provide if you PM me. For security reasons I would rather not publicly post his home address. His wife Noel does have access to his e mail account as well. I could send that in a PM too. Noel would love to hear all the ways he touched our lives.

After 2 previous marriages he found Noel and they were an extremely loving couple for almost 20 years I believe. It is with such sadness that he left this world too early, too early for Noel, too early for me. He helped me in so many ways, with Motorcycles, in life advice; and all he ever asked of me was to take him riding on the best roads I knew. Noel reiterated today when we spoke that he always enjoyed riding with the Aprilia riders at the SE rallys, the Indy GP events, the one trip to Laguna back a few years......

Please reflect tonight on a moment on how precious life is and why we must live life. Richard would be the first to say if he was going to leave this earth earlier than expected, he'd rather it be on 2 wheels, doing what was most passionate to him. So, today please feel sad for his wife, Noel who lost her best friend in the world, for his friends like me who were made better people because of him and who will miss him dearly, but don't feel bad for him for he lived life.

I was most proud to say Richard Jenkins was my friend. Good bye Richard. May God have mercy on your soul

Richard touched so many on this forum. Donations to Richards widow can be made via PayPal to John Cook (Hurricanejohn) at this address- [email protected]

Terrible. Very sorry for your loss, Pete :(

Many years ago, an Internet friend of mine died. This was a cycling forum and he had a heart attack when he was out riding.

I never met him, but I remember crying like I lost someone in my immediate family.

Sorry to hear. It's always so much harder to swallow when things like this happen to truly good people. From everything you have written here that I have read, I trust your opinion and imagine this man was even more decent than you have described. I'm sorry for your loss and express sympathies to everyone who will have an empty spot in their life with Richard's passing.

I'm sorry to hear of your friend's passing. I hope that with each new day your feelings of loss will be covered over with happy memories of the times that you spent with Richard, even if it was 'just' on the internet. A friend is a friend no matter the time that we've know them or the distance that separates us.

Again, very sorry for your and especially Noel's loss.

Over the years I have met some great internet friends both in person and the online family. Pete you are one of our friends from here so we feel a small part of your pain when we lose a good guy.
Our passion has it's rewards and dangers. God's speed Richard Jenkins!

Wow, sorry to hear. This is where I live! I hadn't heard anything about it, but RIP. Don't even want to speculate on what could have happened.

Thank you for sharing this tragic news Pete. We had a fatality in Sacramento the other night when a large utility pickup ran a red light on a left turn. The 41 year old motorcyclist (with the green light) ran into the side of the truck. Be safe out there folks.

So very sorry Pete. Our deepest condolences for everyone.

The way the accident occurred, it almost sounds like he had something medically go wrong while operating the bike. Nothing points to another vehicle, speed, alcohol, etc....

No matter the cause, the passing is tragically sad. May he rest in peace.

Sorry to hear that. Your reaction can be surprising when you hear of another forum member's passing a few years ago one if the ladies on the arctic cat forum I'm on passed, I was pretty saddened by it. She was one of the nicest people, but would put people in place if needed...

Again, thank you everyone. Today at work I stared at his on-line memorial for an hour or so. I am still in shock.

On a positive note over $1,800.00 has been raised for his widow.

I hope he had life insurance. As sharp as he was I suspect so.

I just read this.

It was a great day.

I picked up Richard this morning around 10 or so in my truck. It was about 36 degrees but sunny and nice. I went back home and got everything loaded up on my Wing, including Richard. I had asked his wife if it would be okay to bring him home on my scoot and she thought that was a perfect plan. I put his home address in my nav and pulled out headed south to Smyrna. When I got to the main hwy I decided to alter the route and make one last run with him on Salacoa Road, a local road that he often ran and loved to ride. About an hour later, after some nice, fast twisties and a few scraped floorboards I hit the interstate and headed south with flashers on. A few miles down a trucker hit me up on my CB asking if everything was okay (flashers). I responded that I was giving a friend his last ride home and told him Richards story. That trucker keyed up and let everybody know what I was doing. Every single rig honked their respect for over 30 miles of interstate as our journey continued...it was an amazing ride! I got into the residential end of the ride and pulled up in front of his home. As I dismounted I looked at the front window and saw Chase (white poodle), Ruby (red poodle) and wife Noel standing there. I swear they were all grinning from ear to ear!!! It was an awesome day - Richard is home.
