Hey guys,

Today was my first real day I've spent some real saddle time on the bike. I was on the bike for over 4 hours (around 200 miles).

Here's a few things I've noticed:

1) Engine dieing in 1st gear off throttle. A few times when I've started my bike and taken off in first gear, lets say in a parking lot, I never leave first gear. I will come off the throttle and pull in the clutch and the bike will die. It doesn't do this all the time but there is definitely a stumble when I suddenly shut off the throttle. I've learned to slowly roll off the throttle to get the RPMs down a little before pulling in the clutch. That seems to help with bike dieing.

2) Fairing vibration. There is some really bad buzzing going on with the plastic. Driving me crazy at certain RPM's. Will look into that.

3) Vibration in bars. My hands were tingling quiet a lot when I got home from being on the interstate coming home (was really late and had serious wife aggro). :p

4) To my surprise this bike is more comfortable then my 2001 Bandit 1200. Could use a better seat but it will do for now.

5) Loving the POWER! Holy $hit this thing has some really decent power!! What would be someone's best guess of rear wheel HP for an 08' with FULL R77 Yoshi system? I can't imagine a Power Commander III would add anything but if it does add that too.

Overall I am in love with this bike. It is has exceeded all my expectations!!! I can't wait to go riding tomorrow even if it's just for an hour or so.

A little extra note: My wife is a little pissed at me because she wasn't expecting me to have gotten a loan and have found a bike so soon after talking to her about it. I didn't ask for permission to get it. Also, I didn't tell her I had actually purchased it when I did. She walked in the garage and saw it. She accusing me of getting the bike before I talked to her about it. I have too much respect to do something like that before talking to her. I just had my master plan laid already. haha

I guess the old saying applies here. "Better to ask for forgiveness than permission." HA!

Thanks,
Halflin (Kevin)

Glad you like it.....I love my FZ1 too! Don't forget, unlike a wife the the bike will never divorce you!

What is your idle rpm......maybe that's too low?

With a full R77 it needs a PC or a reflash, RPM should be around 1250 at idle and with all the mods in my signature I pulled on the dyno last Tuesday 151.5 and 100 hp @ 6400. My tuner is 380km away and it makes a full day of it riding down in the morning, on the dyno and running home after, We gained nothing at redline but got the power to come in earlier, had 100 hp @ 7000rpm now @ 6500. AF is right on 12.5-12.7 at all throttle positions and p all revs. The good thing was the ignition map from the Duke map pack was nearly spot on, the gains to the mid range came from getting the bottom end right. Good luck with it, do all the intake mods a PC and get her on a good tuners dyno. The numbers do not mean shit as one dyno will read 130 and the dynojet dyno will read 150 it is the improvement all over the rev range and the throttle response you are chasing.

As stated above raise the idle, you may need to sync the throttle bodies. With the full R77 you need a power commander or some sort of fueling device. I would perform the airbox Mod and install a after market airfilter. Then hold on tight

The idle should be set between 1100 and 1300 RPM per service manual. The bike should not be dying in just off-idle situatons unless something is interupting normal fuel/timing settings during that situation. You might want to do a real good once over to try to determine what else has been done to the bike. Usually guys who go full tilt exhaust mods and put an entire new exhaust on will also do a few other tricks such as add a FCE, eliminate or modify the AIS, modify the air box, etc. Just knowing exactly what has already been done to the bike will help you when diagnosing any problems or deciding what to do next when adding performance goodies.

I believe he has the Power Commander III already. . . . The Yosh system will have uncorked the exhaust end of the equation. Make sure that intake side has been taken care of or you are you aren't getting proper benefit from the mods you have. Modify the airbox and make sure the filter is decent. The flies should also be either downsized, zipped open or removed. Read up here as there is plenty of info . . .
You should find out what map is on your PCIII as it could be anything from absolute junk to just right. Have fun!

I'm sorry I wasn't clear before but as eurban stated I DO have a PCIII. I haven't spent any time "under the hood" so I will do my homework and make sure I am getting the optimal efficiency on the intake side. I am the 3rd owner on this bike so I need to take inventory on what's been done already to this bike. It was the first owner that did all the mods on the bike. The second owner was a 55+ year old gentleman that just rode the bike. I will take some time soon and find out exactly what's been done and see where I can go from here to make this the best bike with what I have already.

I am sooo happy so far though!

Thanks for all of your replies! I can see the passion you all have in owning your FZ1's. I'm feeling I made the right decision purchasing this bike more and more every day.

Welcome to the Club!

I have two stories similar to yours, the first was a few years back I wanted to buy a new Car, I had been driving a 4-banger s-10 pickup for a number of years and wanted a sports car. We decided I could do it after the truck was paid off, there was like 3 more payments on it. Well, she went out of town for the weekend to visit her sisters and when she came home there was a 2004 Subaru STI in the Garage with only 10k miles on it. I still had 2 payments left on the truck, but we made it work. Once she drove it, it had to stay.

Then, a few months back I decided I really needed a Bike for commuting instead of car to get better mileage and save some money. My STI is currently under the weather(long story no time here), and I was driving a Chevy Colorado everyday, and she was driving her S-10 Blazer. The Blazer is paid off and I convinced her that I could buy a motorcycle, helmet, gloves and a jacket for what I could sell the Blazer for, and she could have the Colorado for daily use. She agreed to it and I sold the blazer that weekend and brought home my 2002 FZ1, the seller threw in a jacket, helmet and gloves.

This time she was bummed because she never thought I could make it work..... HAHA!

Now I will be able to save enough money with the bike to fix my STI....
