Well it may not look to close now but it really is close to being done. Here is a shot from tonight.

I have to say that this bike has such eye appealing style for a 250. If they would lose the flame job and go with either a solid color or a two tone, it would boost sales. I forgot to ask you if the flames were decals and also if they were "cleared" over?

They are decals and they are clear coated over. If Sherry digs riding we will just prep and paint over everything in black. The powder coat the frame and everything a lavender/purple like the proposed sample below (pink below but she wants a color like the embroidery.). It is a 650 but you get the girlie idea.

Coming along great! Nice job Brad!

Question... will you have to do something with the mirrors now too? Looks like the higher bars are now directly behind them?

Are you sure those are clearcoated decals? I was told that on the plastics, they cannot clearcoat over decals because the flex will pop the clearcoat off the top of a decal? I thought the FZ1 decals were clearcoated but it turned out to be a clever edge to the decals that appeared as a clearcoating. :D

Good catch on the mirrors. We may have to go to bar end mirrors or I may have to have someone fabricate a 3" riser for me.

The decals are definitely clear coated. The only place they are not clear coated is the front fender.

Here are some photos of soldering in an extra 5" of wire in to the left side electronics controls. This was the more troublesome of the two as it had 9 wires and the right side only had 5.

Soldering the first connection:

Will be putting this in in a few minutes which will allow me to put the tank back on and finish up the handle bars with grips and all. Still waiting for the proper bolt to install bar ends.

Running in to a problem with the brake lines.

The upper brake line goes down to a T that is mounted to the lower triple. That upper brake line running to the master cylinder bumps in the the frame that supports the upper fairing. The stock clip-ons never had this issue because the angle to the clip ons was much lower and easily went under the frame. With the handle bars on it almost comes straight down to the T.

So, I now plan to get rid of the stock T connection and run a line down the right fork to the right brake caliper and then do a double banjo over to the left. The good news is that my original upper line is the perfect length to jump over right to left.

That should work out fine. I've seen that setup on bikes before and while not optimal I'm sure it will work well enough for street riding. Not to mention that routing only one line from the master cylinder will be a lot easier and eliminate the issue that you're having.

Started her up this after noon for he first time in 2 months. I have fuel leaking all over the place from the carbs. I have no idea why as I never touched the carbs.

Unless I hooked the fuel lines up wrong. I cannot find anywhere that would show me which hose goes to what. You have to disconnect about 4 lines on this gas tank. Ridiculous! I should have taken photos.

Also have a lot of slack in the throttle cable. Too much for the adjuster. There are three different attachment points inside the throttle. I need to open it back up and place it in the farthest slot back.

I will not have photos with the fairing back on today but should have photos soon with the tank and bars all setup.

Just give the bottom of the carbs a couple of taps on the float bowl with the end of a screwdriver. You may have one float stuck. No biggie. Sometimes just a couple of taps will free it up.

Still leaking fuel. Strangely enough the bike seems to be running fine. I may have trailer it up to the shop next weekend so they can measure for the brake lines and figure out what the issue with the carbs is.

Ok, starting to get everything finished up. Got all the controls, grips, airbox, and tank installed.

Things outstanding:
1.) Brake lines
2.) Fuel leak
3.) Change oil in forks
4.) Lower front end by 1/2"
5.) Fabricate some kind of mirror riser or get bar end mirrors.

I have cheated! I took the bike in to the shop today to have them finish the last few things that need to be done. Front brake lines, lower front and change the fork oil from 5wt to 7wt.

Will be picking it up Next weekend.

It is just to damn hot out to work on the bike in my garage and I just got a big raise so I figure I would let someone else finish it up.

And I do not blame you one bit for making that move! :D I've thought of moving to the south but think to myself... I'd need a shop attached to the house with AC in it just to clean the chain! ;) So, will we have video sometime late next week with Sherry on the bike? :cowboy:

Congrats on the big raise!!! That is awesome Brad!

Thank you very much! I got promoted on July 1 from Houston IT Manager to Texas Regional IT Manager. I am basically pioneering the regional manager model for the firm. It is a really good opportunity for me. :) Right now I am managing Houston, Dallas and Austin but I may eventually get a few more offices. Hoping for Denver! ;)
