2001 or 2003 to buy?

Dean Dinnetz ( a member here) sells R6 units with the required adjustments.

The other option would be the BMW S1000r shock circa 2012. When
I bought mine they were mainly being taken off the bmws and didn’t have much other use. I paid $45 and had a 700 lb spring I added to it for two up. Now they are used by a couple different bikes as upgrades, so more expensive and harder to find on the bay now. I also have a Penske and the BMW shock is not too far off. I hear great things about the R6 shocks as well. PM Dean and see if he has any left.

Search function here and Google will yield pages of reading. Replace FZ1 with FZS1000 and you'll get some UK stuff too on Google search.

Had this one bookmarked from a few years back also.... https://advrider.com/f/threads/yamaha-fz1.369716/page-41#post-32669650

I just got another 2012 S1000RR shock and it was $60 shipped to me. So you can find them sub $100 on the flebay.

You have to drill out the top hole in the shock. Measure your stock bolt and go a smidge bigger.

Totally forgot about this thread!
I ended up buying the black bike, got it nicely kitted up and went for long ride of about 1300km of twisty roads in one day, and crashed the bike when I was leaned over in a banked corner at around the 1100km mark. Apparently a chipmunk ran across the road and got smushed by my rear tire while I was leaned over. I had no idea what occurred, but my buddies following me saw it and told what happened. I always were great gear, so only my ego was hurt and I could still ride the bike home. At least I got to figure out that the FZ1 is the bike for me.

So while I was slowly making repairs to that bike, I stumbled on another FZ1, this time a 2002 with only 34,000km for $3k Canadian. Got that one kitted out nicely and have put about 50,000km on it in just under 2 years. Took it around Gaspe this year and last year took it up to the end of the North Shore of the St Lawrence Seaway and up to Manic Cinq. Also managed to do a twisty iron butt on the bike, which was over 1600km in one day of mostly twisty backroads - never again!

Planning a 3 week trip to either BC or NFLD this summer. I love this bike!

I've a bunch of things done to the bike, including a custom Corbin seat, upgraded forks and a fully adjustable Wilbers shock.
Pics or it didn't happen:)

The black bike a week or so before I crashed it:(

awesome! What happened to the Black Bike? you still have it?
Still have it and currently sitting in my garage collecting dust. I have a few very small things left to do to it before selling it or putting it back the road. Replaced all the broken plastics with nice carbon fibre stuff, so it actually looks pretty spiffy. But asides from that it’s very close to stock with some tasteful upgrades and it’s been Ivan’ized.

Carbon Fiber? Really? I was not aware that anyone made such replacement Fairings. do they look OEM or are they different?
