I've decided to take my FZ1 street-only, so that means I have WHEELS FOR SALE!
These fine wheels fit an 06-14 FZ1 and 04-06 R1. If you swap the front brake rotors (60 bucks on ebay) they'll also fit an 07-08 R1. The tires are GP-A 211s with about 4 track days on them. I'm...
I installed these just a few weeks ago, and they've been working pretty well. That said, what makes you think you need to replace more than just the seals? The pistons should be fine unless you caught a rock or something in there to chip/damage one of the pistons. You can scrub off any...
I track my Gen II regularly and ride it pretty hard. I've got an aftermarket shock on it now, but even with stock suspension, I had no problems getting a knee down without dragging anything but the pegs. I suspect you've got some serious suspension issues. Try tipping the bike over with no...
I also got a secondhand rack that was missing part #3. I've had 20+lbs of tools in my top case at 100+ mph and experienced no ill effects. I can really only see it being a potential problem if you've got a heavy load AND a heavy pillion passenger.
As for the bolts, you'll be re-using the...
I'll throw in my two cents and say that power commanders for 04-06 R1s are totally plug-and-play for the Gen 2 FZ1s. You can often find those used for cheaper than "FZ1" power commanders. I got an R1 PCII for $120 off of r1-forum.com and it's great.
I'll answer your question first: shipping a bike is expensive. $500 would be a bargain. You'd probably be looking at the $700 range, and $1000 isn't unthinkable, depending on your timeframe and flexibility (willing to drive to, say, Albany to pick it up?). Given that an '03 FZ1 is probably...
I also have an R1 power commander, and it works fine. Just be sure to change the map to something FZ1-appropriate before you fire it up for the first time.
Had a low-side, and banged up my right highway peg pretty badly. I tried making a new one, but, well... I'm no Satan666. If someone else is in my position and looking to dump their 1 good peg, I'm your man!
I've done about 200 offroad miles on my FZ1, and I'd like to do more. To address your concerns (in my experience):
Depending on the tires you're using, the undercarriage will receive varying amounts of punishment. Knobbier tires will kick up more stuff. After all, it's their job to displace...
As the current owner of JMundy's bags, I'll confirm that removal of the side bag mounts is really easy. Also, the top box mount rack is held on with just 6 bolts, so if you really wanted to take that off too, you could do it in probably 5 minutes (but you'd need more tools). You'd just be left...
Props to you, Gamecock, for tracking your FZ. If I can't find a place with a garage (for a track bike) soon, I'll probably go your route and pick up some wheels off of ebay. I've got Michelin PP3s on right now, and they are a good compromise, but I could still use some more grip on the track...
You're correct - the FZ does put out more power than the R6, and really all of the newer 600s. It's more inline with something like a GSXR 750. Now, the older model 600s (pre-2006 or so) actually put out 110+ hp in their stock configurations. When combined with their lighter weight (50-100lbs...
I posted a lap of me on FZ1OA a few days back. My bike's basically stock. Slip-on and aftermarket rearsets because I ground the stock pegs damn near down to a nub. Only real mod I'd like to have for the track is clip-ons. The high bars make it hard to roll on the throttle when you're really...
As banzai said, make sure you've got your body position set before you really crack it open. The first time I did it, I slammed it open after holding steady at about 8k RPM. I was sitting near bolt-upright. I had all my weight on my butt (as opposed to on the pegs), and I rocketed back and...
