I removed the peg and chucked the stud of the bracket in a drill. Take a die grinder with a 3" cutting wheel and grind straight down onto the shoulder weld connecting it to the stud as it's spinning on the drill. It took all of 10 seconds for it to release off the stud. I then lowered the pegs...
I had mine all tucked in to the right side inside the fairing and then read that it had to be mounted upright. I then embraced the thing in all its' ugliness and mounted it on the left side of the motor off my engine guard. Function over fashion at its' purest. Also, I'm sure it's louder there...
I got close to 30,000 miles on the stock chain with less than stellar maintainence. Got a stock chain for $128 at Parts Pit Stop along with new stock sprockets for $65. Can't beat that with a 10 ft. stick.
If the rest of the bike; bodywork, tires, chain and sprockets are in great condition, get a head on ebay and fix it. If it isn't haul it to the boneyard. Most of those things look like they took a trip through a cornfield.
It's caused by the windshield acting like a magnifying glass and heating up and melting the plastic. I've encountered the problem on a GL1500 that I had. I replaced the shield right after I purchased it so I never had any problem after that. When I worked at a Honda dealership in the 1980's we...
Mine was frayed.
I noticed mine was starting to fray at 22000 miles. Since I was doing the valve adjustment anyway I replaced it when all the stuff was off. I had to reroute it when I installed the FZ6 handlebars but you are somewhat limited due to the metal sleeve that it runs through...
First impressions.
You definitely sit higher. I have the Yamaha Gel seat but you sit right on you butt bones ( I don't know the scientific name for them). With this seat most of your weight is on your thighs with only some on your butt. I adapted a Harley Police bike seat to my 1999 Triumph...
Russell Day-Long on Gen II
I just got one on Nov. 13 and put it on. Unfortuneatly it's too damn cold to test it out but here's a picture of it on the bike. With shipping it cost me $407.
Getting a Russell Day-Long.
I took the stock board off and have been using the Yamaha Gel seat. A lot better but not a 300+ mile type seat. It's hard and forces me toward the fuel tank. I sent my seat to Russell Day-Long Seats to have one made up. They have a touring seat and a sport seat. You...
Valve adjustment
I'm doing my valves right now. I have a 2007 with about 23000 miles. I figured I should do the valve adjustment over the winter instead of in the middle of this coming riding season. I haven't been riding the bike since Thanksgiving but have been putting it off (it's called...
I put a set of FZ6 bars on. They have the fittings already on them for the stock bar ends and have holes drilled for the switches though only one of them lines up and I don't remember which one. The front brake lines did reach if you didn't use the bolted mount on the lower triple tree but it...
Actually compared to the 1300cc and up Japanese bikes, the Harleys aren't that bad size wise. People just load them up with so many accessories which makes them seem bigger. The large jap cruisers seem to be alot more massive than they have to be, my friend calls them "Hippo bikes". The 1100...
I work on other people's motorcycles out of my garage. It's mostly older stuff but when I get their bikes in for repair I always ask them when was the last time that the valves were adjusted. Most the time they have no idea or they tell me that they don't seem noisey so they're OK. Most OHV...
