Gen II sprocket side wear: running out of ideas

Hello everyone, and sorry for the late feedback. I've been away on vacation for a while. Current status is: Using a dial gauge I've measured a total of 0.6mm wobble on the rear sprocket. This annoys me no end since I was extremely careful when tightening the rear sprocket nuts, systematically...

Gen II sprocket side wear: running out of ideas

Quick update, It seems I'm guilty of some seriously wishful thinking here. The drive shaft is not hollow. The small hole in the centre does not extend more than perhaps 5mm into the shaft and it's much more narrow than i imagined. I did however manage to find two rods with a reasonable fit to...

Gen II sprocket side wear: running out of ideas

Thanks to Duster_360 and Dicko, I've also come to the conclusion that the MotionPro tool is overrated. Yes, it's way too short and the working principle assumes that your chain is perfectly aligned with the sprockets at each end. And this just isn't true, there's a lot of play from side to side...

Gen II sprocket side wear: running out of ideas

Hello, and thanks to both of you for the input. superpsu: I agree that the clutch hub is an unlikely culprit. The clutch hub and bearing was replaced last year without this having any effect on the problem. I'll give your alignment method a try. It's a bit difficult to find a proper reference...

Gen II sprocket side wear: running out of ideas

Hi superpsu, Thanks for your answer. I thought the rubber padding only was there to reduce noise? Judging from photographs of front sprockets with rubber padding the rubber doesn't act as a spacer between engine shaft and sprocket, i.e. there is metal-to-metal contact between shaft and sprocket...

Gen II sprocket side wear: running out of ideas

My Gen II tends to wear the sprockets unevenly; the front sprocket gets worn on the side facing the engine but not on the opposite side. Now, I know this is textbook evidence of misaligned sprockets. The question is what type of misalignment and what is causing it. I've thought of 3 options so...

Suitable handlebar mirrors for naked conversion FZ1-S?

Nice! The rizoma mirrors went below my radar. They look fantastic. Only thing that worries me is that most of them are just as short as the magazi ones. I found a quick fix on Amazon: Mirror extenders Decided to try this first. Thanks for your help! Einar

Suitable handlebar mirrors for naked conversion FZ1-S?

I have converted my FZ1S to a naked version with custom headlight and handlebar. I found some mirrors with just the design I was looking for (see link), but encountered an unexpected problem: The mirrors are so short that I have a very limited rear view. I need some longer mirrors with similar...

    Chain/sprocket noise...?

Thanks Sebastian. To be honest, I don't think dirt is an issue here. The chain is bare metal all over and there's no clogged chain lube as far as I can see. I've ordered a new chain & sprocket kit. Once I've dismantled the old one I'll compare new and old parts as well as noise level and...

    Chain/sprocket noise...?

Hi, Cobalt! Heheh....thanks for calming my nerves there a bit. I've been known to look for faults where there aren't any. Haven't checked, but I think my front sprocket is standard 17T. The chain and rear sprocket seems to be the original ones, i.e. DID 50VA8 and Sunstar 45T

    Chain/sprocket noise...?

Hi Sebastian. Never gotten as far as cleaning it. As I mentioned I've only ridden around 600 miles on the bike myself. Could definitely give it a try. When you say "clean" you mean leave it to soak in some kerosene for an hour or so?

    Chain/sprocket noise...?

I've clocked around a 1000 km on my second-hand GenII this summer and quickly noted a faint low-pitch wooshing/grinding noise that seems to disappear when I pull the clutch handle. The low pitch -and the fact that it seems to follow speed rather than engine rpm- got me thinking of chain and/or...

Crossplane triple is now a reality

Yep, I'm afraid we do. Two thirds is Norwegian taxes, of course, this being the land of taxes. I'll control myself before I start ranting here , the money we pay is spent on very important social welfare...at least partly. The rest is spent on bureaucratic processess, for example the tax...

Crossplane triple is now a reality

$7990???? I can't BELIEVE how cheap these bikes are in the US. A fully registered 2012-model FZ1-N will cost you $35000 in Norway....God help us. /E

Where to find 4.8mm fastin-faston terminals for relay sockets?

Hi, Craig I suspect the postage from Norway to Australia might cost you more than ordering directly from Mouser...? Actually, if you order for more than 100 USD from Mouser the postage is free, probably also to Australia. I ordered a few relays as well and quickly reached that sum. Their...
