I was on my way home the other night and my friend needed a ride from her office to her house. It's between a quarter to half mile. So I decided to let her ride pillion. Well the transmission made a not nice high pitch noise for the ride. When I went to ride the next day and ever since the bike seems to want to pull left and kind of lean left. I weigh 245 and she weighs 160. I know the weight limit is like 395 so we definitely exceeded that by 10 pounds and I did not change the suspension or chain tension. The bike before was so steady and tracked true that this is a definite change.

Any thoughts or nice suggestions (I am down 15 pounds since I started riding so I'm getting my weight down, I'm 6'4")

You didn't mention if you still had the noise as well?

My first thought is your chain was too tight to begin with and with the extra weight it made it so tight that a strain was put on the tranny, hence the high pitched whine. That extra strain may have tweaked the rear wheel in the swingarm if the bolts were not competely tight, making the bike pull in one direction when going straight down the road. I'd first readjust the rear axle in the swingarm and set the proper chain slack and see if the pulling goes away. I find many chains are adjusted too tight which causes more problems than if they are a bit too slack.

I would go along with what Evitzee said, sounds like this could easily happened,I always run chains on the loose side, last chain on a 919 hornet I got 64,000klms

that is what I was thinking. I just had it in the shop and the chain was adjusted. The guy said it was about an inch and a half that he tightened down to 1 inch approx and the spec is 1.1 to 1.3.

the tranny is not making the noise as bad but it still sounds a little different

I'll try adjusting chain and rear wheel. Thank you

He may have over-adjusted the chain and with your rider weight on it, it is far too stressed. That causes a lot of noise! A little too loose is better than a little too tight.... always (well, with chain adjustments!!!)!

right on cobalt!

Wow! Is that really spec for GenII Chain Tension?? The GenI spec is 1.57 to 1.97 inches. I just think that 1.1 to 1.3 is too tight. Especially if the shop didn't adjust it from the tightest section of chain. I would always rather have it on the looser side than tighter. Just my :2cents:.

Sv: I may have broke something

I might have broken my clutch switch when putting new adjustable handles .. the damn switch box is so thin plastic it cracked on first attempt .. I tried to use super glue but it's -1ºC outside and the plastic doesn't seem to be joining with the glue. Finally I used a strap ..

Not that I'm hijacking the thread but it's a good name for a long lived thread

Yeah, I'm fine :D

A car didn't bother to shoulder check and turned into my space as I was going around a queue. I failed to anticipate him turning into me and I reacted by going up the curb and into the mud. Maybe if I had some dirt experience I wouldn't have crashed ;) It was pouring rain and I landed in a soggy, sloppy mess of mud and grass

Bike had zero damage. Go figure!

Did you mess with it yet? Check the chain also. it maybe toast and you are hearing it around the front sprocket.

I looked at the marks on the swingarm to indicate the distance for the adjustment bolt (I dunno how else to say it) It appears that the left side (chain side) is a little closer than the other side. I don't have the big bolt thing to undo the axle bolt.

Can I just adjust the side that appears to be different by loosening the locking bolt and adjusting the distance on the left (chain side) of the swing arm?

Not without loosening the axle bolt.
