That is good stuff!

Got a lot done today. Went downstairs early and finished by 4:30pm. I was just too tired to continue.

Started with re-assembling the rear wheel. Torqued the sprocket onto the cushdrive assembly.

Rear Wheel Done! Scratch that from the list!
IMG_4486_zpsbbecfee7.jpg

Nose Piece from the belly pan had a ton of road salt behind it but now is squeaky clean!
IMG_4489_zps4aa13d6a.jpg

Scrubbed the inside of the belly pan with kerosene to clean all the grime, then polished it out with the Honda Polish.

I moved on to the rear hugger next with the same procedure as the belly pan.

IMG_4496_zpse499f99e.jpg

Next was the rear tail panels. It's amazing just how much crud accumulated from that one ride!

IMG_4503_zps66cbe1fe.jpg

Mid Panels were up next. By this time I wanted to at least get all the bodywork done today.

IMG_4508_zps6d8ae6bc.jpg

Got the upper done as well as the windshield.
IMG_4513_zps06b60e9a.jpg

I took a little break and busted out the Eagle One and polished up the right rear passenger peg assembly to match the other side.
IMG_4514_zps7c62b037.jpg

Knocked out the rear tail piece.
IMG_4515_zps3f16a75e.jpg

I cleaned up the handlebar area, gauge cluster, and fairing brackets.
IMG_4518_zps10bcb3ac.jpg

I finished up the day by removing the front fender and hitting it with kerosene and then polish.

Thats it for today's installment. I gotta take a shower and rest my bones so I can be ready to start early again tomorrow. It's crunch time for me as warmer weather is approaching. Tomorrow will be exhaust headers, front of the motor, front wheel removal, and hopefully removal of the forks. If I can get those things done I'll be right on schedule! See ya tomorrow!

Looks like this round is going faster than the first time. Probley helps that you had a good coat of wax on it. At this pace it wount be long bud.

Thanks Mikey! You are right on. Definitely much easier this time around. Tomorrow will be a chore though since I'll be tackling the headers. :eek5:

looks good you are a very patient man

Thanks Lonney. It's definitely relaxing for me to sit in the garage and wrench on the bike. Not sure if others feel that way but it's been like that for me my entire life, both cars and bikes. Not sure if I would feel that way if I had to do it as a job every day though.

End Of Weekend Marathon!

Darn! I'm so tired I can barely type, but I have so much to show from today. This weekend is gonna hurt me tomorrow for sure. This will definitely be my LAST rebuild of anything. I'm officially retiring after this project.........unless of course I get a nice lift put in the garage!! Then I'll have to think about it.

Okay, I'm drifting, sorry. So last night I wrote up a list of everything else I could think of to be done. I wound up with 12 items. I want to be done in three more weekends so I'm thinking 4 items a week.

Today I brought down a long piece of cardboard and laid down alongside the bike with my kerosene, scotch brite, Eagle One, and rags, and went to town on whatever I could reach. As I hit the headers I was amazed at just how ruined they were. There is no way that place Ceramic Coated these headers! I'd say that he just powder coated them cause there is NO WAY that one ride would be able to do this damage! I was so pissed I called the place and guess what??!!, yes, the phone was disconnected! Surprise Surprise! I'm gonna pass by Monday with my camera to talk to the guy if it's the same place. Anyhow, I cleaned up all the road salts from the engine block, rear shock area, headers, and oil pan. Sorry but I forgot to snap a photo, being so mad and all.

After I calmed down I decide to try out my new spark plug tool that I got from Great Britain. I attempted to get to the plugs from the bottom so I tried the number 1 cylinder. Being that the tool has two sizes, one per end, it was too long to make the bend onto the plug. I broke out the cutting wheel to make modifications. I cut the end which I won't be using and then it went in perfectly.
IMG_4526_zps0147c3c0.jpg

In seconds the first of four was out! Aside from the grime I got on it, it looks like it's burning just fine.
IMG_4525_zps315baadf.jpg

The second cylinder would be a bit tougher. So again I had to improvise. I cut some rubber vacuum line, then broke the plug loose with the wrench, removed it and inserted the hose. It was out like nothing! This is gonna be a breeze!
IMG_4528_zpsefb1588a.jpg

This is how it looked with the hose attached.
IMG_4530_zps11b1c0bf.jpg

In 20 minutes, side one was done!
IMG_4532_zpsb8929ab9.jpg

BREAK TIME!!!

IMG_4533_zps83c32651.jpg

Wow! Thanks Rich, I needed that. Now back to work.

Once I had the system down, cylinder's 3 and 4 were both done easily and all buttoned up!
IMG_4537_zpscdadcbaa.jpg

While I was laying down I was fortunate enough to have found the coolant leak I had seen. It looks like the thermostat housing. I'll have to change that gasket, or maybe a hose. I'll have to lift the tank to see.
IMG_4540_zpsc0acff00.jpg

I decided to start on the front end next, so I broke out the lift I got from Earlzach (David), and gently hoisted her up just enough to get the wheel off the floor, then locked it in place.
IMG_4541_zpsca0d570b.jpg

I got the filthy front wheel off, and also noticed that my "pinch bolt" is missing from the fork. I'll have to see if I have it laying around, or if I never had one on there.
IMG_4542_zps277008af.jpg

I cleaned and polished the rear front fender so that was done.
IMG_4544_zps7794fe64.jpg

Next to go were the front forks.

IMG_4545_zps67d25c7a.jpg

IMG_4547_zps382adc01.jpg

IMG_4548_zps68c952b3.jpg

I then broke out the heat gun and hit each rotor bolt with some heat to melt the locktite which made them come off easily.
IMG_4549_zps6f3348a8.jpg

Dirty Wheel!!
IMG_4550_zps0e7a250a.jpg

I hit the wheel with kerosene to remove all the crud, and then polished it up good with the Honda Polish. Wheel Clean!
IMG_4552_zpsae37435c.jpg

Next I took the rotors and hit them with fine scotch brite and brake cleaner.
IMG_4553_zps4f57fc86.jpg

The rotor came out beautiful.
IMG_4556_zps5e1a087e.jpg

***POST STARTS ABOVE***

I love scotch brite. The bolts came out great!
IMG_4557_zpsd8d11e98.jpg

Thats one side finished and put back together.
IMG_4560_zps8cee5326.jpg

Here is the wheel all done. I'm happy I got this finished today.
IMG_4561_zps362ec5f3.jpg

So I was able to scratch a few items from my list today which made me happy. It was worth the pains.
IMG_4562_zps625b01df.jpg

So this leaves me with just a few more things to do before she goes back together for the start of the season. I need to bring the fork legs to work with me. I wasn't able to crack the nuts on top while they were pinched in the triples. Just wasn't happening and I didn't want to force it and break something. I'll bring my heavy strap wrench to work and let one of the guys hold it while I use a big pipe wrench to crack them loose. The 24MM socket just doesn't feel right on it.

Next Saturday I'll be at my nephew's house so I will only have Sunday but I should be able to knock another two or three things off the list. Thanks for looking!

billy I gotta wonder why you never tore the bike all the way down to bare frame and just go crazy on it

I just don't have the room in that garage. If I took a video of me working in there you'd see how many times I have to move things back and forth just to get around. If I had 50 more square feet and a bike lift, I probably would have gone that route.

Da Man . . . . !

Billy , , , awesome job my friend . . . . I have seen your garage and it's amazing what you are able to do in there . . . !

You will have that bad-boy lookin' just spiffy by springtime !! :rmwl:
