The Hawk Has Landed

@ Billy, Yep this one is going into the Blue Hawk. At least for now. Keeping a project in one direction is not my strong suit.

@ Amevl, Trying to justify powder coating.

I really love these bikes man. I am really enjoying this thread.

Keep up the great work man, you got yourself two nice bikes.

And if you ever decide to get rid of one hit me up as I would take one in a heart beat.

30 day update......

Been sort of busy but plan on buttoning up the engine this week. Tommorow I'm ordering a clutch and jet kit. The engine is basically together. Just need to install and time the cams.

Went to to Hawk ralley in CT and it was a blast. Wish we could actually get a event like it together. I met Billy up on Hawk Mnt and got to hang out for a little bit. Stayed at a hawk forum members house(chuck). Chuck made a incredible amount of food for two days and plied us with all the booze we could handle. Some Hawkers came down from Canada and the turn out was great. On sunday we hit up some super sweet back roads around Monroe. I headed back on Monday and look forward to the 2013 Ralley. I scored some sweet trick forum member made parts as well. I also had the opportunity to ride a built 700cc Hawk. It wasnt a monster but a hugh improvement over stock.

Bike looks great Johnny! I saw those headlight brackets on the Hawk forum. They look very trick (I picked up a set of his frame sliders and engine mount spacers). For now I painted the stock headlight brackets black.

Just waiting on my fork caps (aftermarket with preload adjustment provision) to arrive so I can get the forks back together.

By the way any tips to get those bar end mirrors to tighten properly. I got some that look very similar, but there's a lot of clearance inside the bars so I'm not sure that they'll tighten properly. Haven't really tried to get them on since the front end is all apart still...

Thanks Craig I have a naked racing theme in mind. Over the winter I want to adapt a NS125 tail with a numberplate on the front. Ill put to recessed projectors in the numberplate.

Well I'm currently taking a break and sucking back a beer but I'm ready to bolt up the 700. On wednesday I received the rest of my parts (stage 3 jet kit, clutch and pod airfilters). Last night I rebuild my second set of carbs with the stage 3 jet kit. This morning I swap my stock carbs that I had with the stage 1 kit for the rebuilts and pod filters. I figured it was a good idea to put them on a known running motor to see how they worked. This way if I run into a issue after the engine swap I'll at least know its not the carbs. It pulled much better and sooner than with the stock airbox(K&N installed). I really can't wait to see how the bump in compression and a extra 50cc is going to make her run:sinister: Really hoping it doesnt just blow the f up:nothing: my fingers are crossed.

Tony sorry I missed the end of your previous post.

The clip ons I'm using are really thick walled so I had to make some expanders out of misc crap I had laying around. I have use some cut down thin aluminum flashing before. I just cut it into a 1in x 2in strip then wrap it around the expander.

Oh Really!!!?? Well, you know that on this site, seeing is believing pal!:nono:
Hows about a short video clip???!! LOL!

I'll try to shoot some tomorrow or the next day. I'd take some photo's but on the surface it looks the same.

It runs great. It will power wheelie first gear now. It has some decent torque around 3k, it was pretty dead around 3k before. Very happy with my efforts.

Thanks for that tip. From what I had heard something had to be wrapped around the expander to make it a little "fatter". The aluminum flashing idea sounds good. I had heard of some guys using aluminum soda cans, but they are very thin so I like your solution better.

Thanks to some help from motoman250f I have the stock engine in the grey Hawk. I gave the frame a good cleaning over the last couple of weeks. My work benches now have room. Sadly this hawk will be for sale soon. It will make someone a very nice ride.
