I doubt anyone noticed, but I have not been contributing to the threads in the last 2.5 weeks. That is because I was in the Hospital. On Saturday July 21st My lower Aorta had a Dissection that sent me to the ER and gave me over 2 weeks in the ICU. The dissection is different from an Anurism, essentially due to genetics I have weak connective tissue, and apparently I also had high blood pressure. This caused the walls of my Aorta to begin separating from each other similar to how an onion skin can peal away under pressure. This caused me some pretty intense pain in my chest at first and then my lower back.

Lucky for me the doctors decided I could heal without surgery. Surgery would of meant cutting our about 6 inches of my lower Aorta and replacing it, a very dangerous surgery.

I was put on major blood pressure medication, and am still on quite a few pills to keep my blood pressure low. As long as I can control it though meds and diet the lower pressure should allow my Aorta to heal on its own.

After the doctors were able to control my Blood Pressure with meds for more than 24 hours they gave me the clear to go home. I was released yesterday and slept in my own bed last night. I still have a long way to go, but I am feeling much better than when I first went into the Hospital. I owe my life to the ER crew at the Scripps Encinitas Hospital, and my recovery to the Scripps Green Hospital in La Jolla.

This means I will probably not use my FZ for commuting anytime soon and stick to my cage for now. this might give me the time to finish doing some of the painting I want to do to the bodywork.

wow, glad they don't have to do surgery. Welcome back

I dread the day my genetics comes to haunt me... diabetes and other blood issues run in half of my family... knock on wood, I've been lucky or smart about my diet all these years

Yes, very glad that you are back and that you didn't have to go through such a major surgery. Genetics are a big pain, because if you are doing everything right, you will most likely still have problems. Good to see that they got you taken care of fairly easily. Take care of yourself, and like you said, you can get some of that painting done to the FZ.

Wow....that's scary stuff! Please continue to take it easy so you'l be back to 100% soon!

And I do notice when someone "disappears" for awhile....especially when it's a member that post on a regular basis.

glad your healing and doing well! this should be a lesson to all about hypertension, not to preach but if you have not been to the doctor for some time please get your blood pressure checked. gone undiagnosed, untreated for many years will result in major health issues, which may result in major loss of riding time, and nobody wants that!

Agreed, get checked every year no matter how young you are. I am only 34 and this happened to me.

Sorry to hear.
The "fix" is all by meds? Blood pressure reducers, blood thinners, etc? The blood thinners will keep you off the bike - bruising. I hope you give them time - and the heal is good!!!
I've been though something similar myself.
Best of Luck!

Mostly meds for now. Just Blood Pressure medication, no thinners that I know of.

I have been ordered no exercise or anything that can increase my BP, and I imagine rocketing through the gears on the FZ might lead to increased BP.. lol.
