Does your FZ1 help your bad back?

thread_hijack_sorry_cat.jpg

My advise is to go from least potential harm to most potential harm...

I hear ya on that! 9 orthopedic surgical procedures over 5 year span after a military training accident (6 broken bones).......I don't want any more surgery!! You are never the same after. :icon_beer:

It wasn't until the 3rd person went to work that it turned out better.........

In February when I bought my FZ1, A chiropractor told me "leaning forward on your sport bike puts less pressure on your L2-L4 Impingement."

Do any of you have this with bad backs or Lumbar issues? Does leaning forward on your bike help you? I am glad this slight lean forward helps with my 16 hour a day pain. Last Thursday a neurosurgeon told me I have Retrolisthethis and my only recourse is spine fusion of L2, 3 and 4. At 6-1 & 240 my 45 years of heavy weight-lifting (and NO Core work) has caught up with me. Surgery is my call, so the Dr. said the only mechanical thing I can do "lessen" my pain is "Core work" and "not be so big," so I am dropping to 195 lbs, my HS wrestling weight.

Thank God the FZ1 does not hurt right now. Commuting and Sunday rides is keeping me SANE.

Man, my 2 cents is if you can do without surgery, do it. Sometimes it's absolutely unavoidable, but. Just make sure you ask for 2nd opinion and be satisfied you have an expert. ;)

I have a CBR600F3 as well as the FZ1 and for me, the noticeable diff is with my wrists - the fwd position of the 600 puts much more weight on my wrists, it takes a few days of riding before my wrists are not sore at the start of s day of riding.

It doesn't help that I badly broke my right wrist in '77 either. I have no such prob riding my FZ1. This is part of the reason I'm working on the 600 getting it ready hopefully for a new owner....

465 Miles? DANG!

FZ1 def helps with my back problems, fireblade, gixer i didn't enjoy after a run, too many painkillers afterwards. Lastyear went to Wexford, southern Ireland, 465mile run there and back and right wrist was only prob i had..:teeter:

Your an animal!

I am desperately trying to avoid surgery, so I'm getting in all the "pain-less" rides I can.

:dontknow:

Trying Core and weight loss first

Your SO RIGHT. Two left knee surgeries and it has never healed right.

Even the Web site of the Ortho Spine surgeon I am going to (for a 2nd opinion) raves about building up a good Core-Strength do "relieve pain."

I was always a HEAVY lifter but avoided Abs. Now it will be my main routine for the next 6 months. The rest of the muscles will be lighter and AFTER the Core exercises.

My RN wife said, "While you save up Vac and Sick Leave, lets try the dieting, walking and Core work for 6-12 months. You have a plan, so lets try it before another surgery."

I hurt my back in 04 and I had to have emergency surgery to stop the nerve damage that I was showing/experiencing in my right leg, L4-L5 laminectomy. My back and right leg have never been the same. The damaged area continues to degrade and I continue to manage the situation the best I can until I ultimately will have to have a fusion proceedure. I will have to be at a point of not being able to tolerate the pain in order to agree to another surgery.

I get a series of epidural injections about every year to year and a half and that seems to keep me from being cronic. Not a day goes by that it does not hurt to some degree, I can ride sport bikes, trail bikes and standards along with track days when I can. I just have to stay within my limitations.

Here is a slides from my most recent MRI, April 19th this year that shows the damage pretty clearly.

or have carpel tunnel on the wrists.
i have a bad back. a very bad head-on (i was in a 3/4 ton pu. about 150 mph hit. i was doing 45mph. the left front tire was coming through the floor.
but with a couple day long rides one mostly flat, and slab, the other hwy 88. and fun. no problems with the back. but the carpel does give my arm a pain.
2004 bike and even the stock seat is good on the butt,
if your butt hurts, STOP putting your wallet there. the nerve damage i believe can clear up on it's own..in time. i have not kept my wallet in a pants pocket in decades. like over twenty years....and yes i drive a "big rig" for pay.
i ride a bike for life.

so i would say the bike is good if you have a bad back.

Dumb painful glutes, tailbone & right leg

Thanks Packnrat. That MRI looks painful.

I just started putting the wallet in the front pocket. My wife said I can have an epidural every 2 months, so I am getting the approvals right now for my 1st.

Lets hear it for "leaning forward pain relief." At 58 I have wanted a bike (that ran) for the last 35 years. I think the "Pleasure of being on the FZ1" must weigh into this pain management issue. I am grinning all the way to work, locking it up and walking into my work. DITTO for the ride home.

I guess guys (and gals) the older we get we have to count our blessings for the "sunny days and no health issues."

I'll keep you up to date on my weight loss/Core work program for back pain.

Got "a joke" of a 2nd opinion

A retrolisthesis is when one vertebra moves backwards in relation to another. Surgery should always be a last resort as there's no going back.

2nd surgeon got all my Xray, CT, MRI results, plus the observations of 1st surgeon. His secretary calls me and says, "Dr Neurguerger says you are NOT a surgery candidate." What arrogance! He never examined me on his own. I wanted to know if I had different options.

Started back with previous chiropractor yesterday. He said, "stretching is just as important as core work"

I am trying core and 40 lbs weight loss (don't need 18" arms if my heavy lifting days are over) and seeing my GP to ask for a better referral.

I am making lots of endorphins on the 08 FZ1, so its a bonus.
